Once I get this D54 sorted out :'( the HW97 8) is my next "target" to get a Vortek kit. Anybody tried one lately in these? Tips/observations?? of process and results
-
Tom I just installed a spring from Vortek and used all the factory componets and the gun shoots like butter, I get the same results just using the springs as I do the whole kit, IMO the outer plastic guide in these kits breaks to easy and I don't think they make any difference in the performance or spring dampening of the shot cycle, I have not had any mechanical noise issues or other problems with just the use of the VT springs and I have used these springs in several guns now with tunes by themselves and they shoot smoother than a gas ram! :P

How much decompression length does the compressor need to handle to get the stock spring out of there???
-
you need at least 3 to 4'' of travel :P

From what I have read and heard back from others the HW97 does not really need anything as far as a kit to make it any better. Now with that said I just stumbled upon the post here. What in your opinion does the Vortek system do over the stock gun?
I ask because I am looking to buy a HW97 soon.

it will smooth it up quite a bit! and make shoot way smoother especially in .177cal, I have a .22cal that I have tuned with justed the factory parts and its very smooth and easy to shoot and accurate as can be! but the VT kits really help out the smaller cal for sure! :P

Hi Tom ,I know you asked about the Vortek kit ,but Maccari's Hornet Mk 6 kit is pretty sweet, way softer shooting than the Mk 5 I have used both fyi..kelly

I hate to say this this because I like Tom at Vortek and have delt with him for a few yrs now but if I'm gonna use a complete tuning kit from somebody instead building one from scratch I'm gonna use JM's or Steve Pope's kits because of the metal spring guides and their quality JMO :P

Tom,
Have you chrony the HW97 yet? I just bought a used .20 cal late January and everything was stock. When I tested the rifle i got 698 FPS with the JSB Exact. I used a .135 27 coils one end set the other open and ground spring from Vortek which i originally purchased for my RWS460 and a 26mm VAC Seal. I cleaned and properly lubed all needed parts and now I'm getting a smooth 776 FPS with the JSB Exact. I really like my HW97K.
Did you order a 34K from Hector? The avatar looks familiar.

Somewhere I have the out of box readings on the Syn stainless HW97...I know they were posted on Dianawerks Forum. have not shot it much have been trying to get a NIB D54 up to snuff...then maybe back to the HW97 20 cal. off the top of my head 776fps with that pellet is smokin hot ;D I am waiting the D34K as well its starting to drag out at this point the rifles are there and so are the Vortek kits and I am running out of diversions here very soon :o

Out of box readings:
The tape from AOA was the same JSB pellets and must have had some dieseling...I have been keeping the rifle standing in cabinet on butt so any oil will move away from seal area
