I was just checking out the swept volume table of various airguns in the Turkey gate, and the Super Streak is right up there with the top dogs. Makes me think that this is a platform that has not gotten enough love from the tuners out there. When is the last time anyone saw a Super Streak tuned to shoot harder than 30 FPE? I think that it can be done to a Super Streak or XL, realistically, with nothing more than a stronger ram/spring and added (or perhaps subtracted) piston weight in conjunction with the right pellet...

Mine is doing about 26fpe(Tuned XL). Not sure 4 more fpe would be very attractive to me, it's already more accurate than I am. With that much power it would really be a tiger-by-the-tail.

Mine cranks out between 27-28fpe. That, to me, is all the power you need from a break barrel. Add more piston weight and you may add a couple of fpe but you will absolutely make it even more of a beast to shoot. ;D
These guns are rockers and rollers as is.
But hey, see if you can crank a little more power out of them. And I hope you can still shoot it accurately afterwards. Keep us informed. Main things are STAY safe and enjoy what you're doing.
Happy Shooting!!!!

Bryan,
Here are those charts for you guys . . . Click to enlarge.

This one is in Russian, but it is decipherable.

I've already saved both of those charts a little while ago. Would love to see em added to. Great job there.
As a new guy, I'm still in the grip of magnumitis, and given my personal tendencies, always will be to a point. I'll probably go the route of a few reliable strong and accurate shooters, then have some that are just for flat out power that I play with to see what I can get em to do.
In that vein, it would be great to see some efforts towards maximum power potential explored. Just because accuracy is supreme, doesn't mean it can't be fun to see how hard a pellet can be made to wallop a target ;D
Who knows, someone may eventually come up with mods that preserve accuracy as well as create max power instead of the compromise most have to accept right now.

I'm in the same boat. I've only been a serious airgunner for a couple of years. I had a couple magnums in the passed that I sold (not because they were too hard to shoot, i had other reasons) and recently traded my brother in law a .177 R.A.M. for his 22SG (I wanted it for the kids) but I still love magnums and want one really badly. I just started over with the collection, and I already have a medium-magnum that's easy to shoot. I've tuned it and it turned out great. Getting 16.3-16.4 fpe with Kodiaks and not the least bit hold sensitive, and so far I've got no problem keeping them in a inch all the way out to 45 or 46 yards- which is as far out as I can stretch it on my property. Anyway, the magnum-itis is killing me at this point. I want to break the 30 fpe barrier, and I'm dead set on doing it with a Super Streak or an XL! I've even thought about putting my X20S up for trade, but I know that I would miss it and wind up getting another and tuning it, which might not turn out as good. In addition to boosting the power, I think that there are a few things that could be done to improve hold sensitivity in these guns that are being overlooked by a lot of people. Like perhaps drilling out the stock screw holes, and inserting some kind of PTFE bushings- or maybe even rubber ones, or perhaps a PTFE bushing with a piece of surgical tubing stretched around it. There is a way!!
edit- Oh, and BTW- Dave, thanks for re-posting those charts.

Innovation in this sport is welcome. I'd like to see more power since I'm a power junkie too. But there are aerodymanic limits on a small piece of lead. And what good is power punch on a target if you can't hit it consistantly and accurately?
But you gotta love the power!!!!

That's a great point. Maybe its time for a little more attention to pellet designs as well eh? When was the last time anybody saw a trully innovative pellet design (25 cal and below) that wasn't just a grand variation of the diablo?
-
I think maybe modeling a pellet after the Brenneke rifled slug design would be pretty sweet. Better cross-sectional density than a diabolo pellet for much better penetration, with a plastic cup attached to the rear to help stabilize the projectile, as well as grip the rifling and seal the bore. But how do you get started with something like this?
