Title: NPSS 22 Breech seal problem - HELP!
Post by: tracka on February 14, 2012, 06:10:43 PM
Greetings, Got this 22 NPSS about 2 weeks ago, after about 100 shots found the breech seal O ring damaged it's  the bottom part.  Crosman sent me 2 new seals, I put one in today, polished the face that the seal goes against when the barrel is closed and there are no burrs or anything.  Fired about 10 shots and I can see that the new seal is beginning to be destroyed.  It actually looks like air pressure when firing is blowing the surface off the bottom part the O ring in a downward direction and it will soon have a small chunk missing like the old one did.  Any ideas?  Thanks, ?Tracka

I have a npss .22 with at least 2000 rounds.  No seal problems.  Sounds like the seal may not be seating correctly.  Suggest sending it ti crosman for repair.

I agree with Fish...seal is not seating properly. Probably some remnants that you didn't remove. Check it out again and make sure it is as flush flat in its groove as possible otherwise you'll be going through alot of them being they will get slived and dinged and dented. Bad seals will ruin your day!

Are these breech seal O rings from Crosman any different than what I can pick up in the local hardware store? Tracka

Yes, but you can try the rubber ones at the store. They may work just as well. Try, and let us know.

The o-rings from the hardware store are round, the breach seals are taller than wide(the shape of the seal itself). You likely are not locking up tightly enough and should check your alive jam/...or the seal does not protrude enough to have a good contact.  The jam is easily removed by putting the breach down on a firm surface and by pressing down to release the pressure on the bushing, you can slide the jam out and place a washer behind the spring to increase pressure. The seal can be easily shimmed outward by putting a few wraps of dental floss under it before it is replaced.

Actually, on this gun, the breech seal is perfectly round and appears to be exactly like the hardware type O ring.  Havn't been to the store yet to check out availability of the exact size tho.  The dental floss shim is a good idea.  Thanks, Ed (tracka)

NPSS have the black o-ring style seal. All of my crosman and rem. had shims under the seals. I agree on checking the lock up. The NPSS has better lock up parts than the crosman. Check for movement up and down and side ways. Brass washer help with the play and lock up. Tightening up the barrel pivot helps as well. Just be sure that you loosen the allen set on the pivot before tightening or loosening.
