Title: Benjamin Trail NP XL lock up.
Post by: Nate the airgunner on February 14, 2012, 06:02:52 PM
The title explains it, Im fairly sure my Benjamin has barrel lock up issues. The rifle is almost turning one, and the nylon washers are wearing out. I know this, because at first I had to smack the barrel open, now I can just pull it and opens. What my real question is, is if this can be the reason for my dirfting POI,the POI drifts up to 2 oe 3 inches between shooting sessions, but the gun groups nice most of the time, but im starting to get more and more flyers. Thanks fot the help.

Sorry Nate, don't know how everyone missed this one... the nylon washers should be replaced with brass ones. The originals loose their resiliency after a while and will continue to loosen up. The lock-up is controlled by the alive jam and can be adjusted by removing it and placing a washer or two behind the spring. It may also be necessary to shave a bit off the shoulder of the "slot" which holds the jam in place when the breach is opened. The washers will correct any left to right movement, and the jam corrects up and down movement. Hope this helps.

Is this a issue with all Trail's or just the XL's?  And if all can someone post a pictorial of this?  That would be greatly appreciated! ;D

I just looked at that site, "airguntoys", and saw breech washers there.  My question is, exactly where would breech washers go and why?  Ed (Remington NPSS)

tracka, welcome to GTA. Look at Item19 on the Expanded View & Partslist for the NPSS. Brass ones last longer than the oem plastic ones.

Bought two brass washers with same hole diameter as the stock plastic washers.  The overall diameter was bigger on the brass washers but turned them down using a Dremel tool.  All I had was $.92 in the two brass washers!!!!  Not $6 from airgun toys.  Not saying it is not a good deal if you don't have a Dremel but if you do, do the work of turning them down yourself and save $5 overall.  That is if that price is for two washers and not one which I am not sure on the airgun toy site the way it reads.

These are machined washers. Cut to exact replacement and camphered. They are WELL worth the asking price. I have several sets.

Remove the breech bolt and drop the barrel down. The nylon washers sit on either side of the breech pivot. These tend to wear and will cause side to side slop that will throw off your POI. Buy a set of these, drill several small holes (4 maybe) in them, coat both sides with Moly and reinstall. You will never have to worry about side to side play in your barrel.
