Crosman Titan GP (Nitro Piston)
Today i had the wonderful luck of getting a damaged packaging NIB airgun, for about 50% off from walmart. below is my first day review. my barnyard grading system is X's... 5 is best score, 1 is lowest.
Fit and Finish: XXXXX
upon first appearance, this rifle had the looks, and feels, of a much more expensive air gun. the barrel was beautiful, the wood, on mine was fantastic minus a very small blemish, that i'm sure is a natural wood issue, and not a manufacturing defect. the muzzel break does make the gun pretty muzzel heavy, but looks very very nice! Thumbhole stock is very comfortable and aids in shooting.
Optics: XX
the Air rifle came packaged with a Centerpoint 4x32 fixed power scope, and what felt to be, pretty decent 2 piece scope mounts. after getting everything put together, and checking the scope, i will definatly be replacing the 4x with a 3-9x AO centerpoint. the 4x will move to another ag however, still a decent scope, but not deserving for a rifle of this caliber.
Trigger: XXX
STOP RIGHT NOW... google Charlie Da tuna and his GRTIII trigger, pay the 30 some dollars shipped, and get back to shooting. installs in 2 minutes, and will greatly enhance your shooting experience. with that said, the stock trigger on it, is actually not too bad. it is a Theoben/Gamo clone style trigger, in fact, this gun mimics the gamo so closely, i was able to place this gun into the gamo stock, and vice versa.

at first, the gun dieseled for about the first 50 rounds, and accuracy was sub par at best. at 50 or so, they tightened down very nicely. i am still getting about 2 or 3 fliers in a group of 10, but the non fliers are very tight, and who doesn't enjoy that!
Power: XXXX
my gun seems to be on par with everyone else, in means of power. about 730 FPS is what it feels and shoots like, however, i shot a 3/4 inch piece of particle board, (my .177 cal gamo big cat backboard) and it punched right through, and the CPHP mushroomed to almost 1.5x the original diameter. this thing packs a punch!
Powerplant: XXXXX
I really enjoyed shooting the Nitro Piston powerplant. Being my first time, the cocking effort was smooth, and the recoil was swift, and manageable. Gun Does not seem hold sensitive at all.

I give this Airgun a 4/5 rating, mainly because the optics and trigger. this gun would have done much better if shipped with the 3-9x Centerpoint instead of the 4x. but for the base price of 150 dollars, this is an air rifle you will be proud to own! As with any lower priced make, you may get a lemon. do yourself a favor and buy from PA or from Walmart, both have great return policy's. Also, it seems to like the 14.3 grain Crosman Premier Hollow Points, which Walmart has for 6.99 per 500. Another Great Deal.

Very well put Ed, I agree with you a 100% I bought one awhile back and have had great success with mine I replaced the trigger and scope and it is a an exelent rifle for the money ;D as you have stated all the same things I have experienced with the one I bought :P this is a good buy on a entry level gas ram gun!

after a few hundred more rounds, i will do a more thorough review of it. but my initial is the accuracy is far greater than that of my gamo big cat, but it could be just me. being a lot less hold sensitive is a plus.

My Nitro piston whiped out today, i cocked it, and it felt weird, a little catchy... i shot it and you could hear things inside breaking during the shot cycle. i returned it to wally world, and they were sold out. i'm told that they will have more in by wednesday next week.

oh... somehow, some way, they returned the full value of the air rifle, not the super discounted price that i paid for it... so i basically made 75 bucks out of it...
now just to not spend the cash until new rifles come in.

I returned mine to Wallmart yesterday as well. It was not shooting as well as I had hoped.
I found a Benjamin Trail NP online for $185 plus $10 shipping. That's only about $35 more than the Titan after sales tax and the Trail NP is a much better airgun. It also has a weaver rail, a 3-9X40 scope, sling and shrouded barrel.

I want one bad, the XL 1100. But I'm strapped for cashish.
Only negative, for me, is the physical length of the XL.

I'm pretty dead set on the Trail XL, but does anyone have an idea of something in the same power level, and price range? my wife OK'd me buying it, my birthday is in 2 wks.. yay me!

As you may know, the Trail NPXL 1100 and 1500 share many of the same features as the NP's. Same well made sling and a very nice, simple, strong mounting system. They have a welded-on weaver rail, so no more scope mount creep. They have a nice 3-9 AO CenterPoint scope that is nothing like any of the CenterPoint scopes shown on CenterPoint's or Crosman's websites. It apperas to be externally, exactly like a Hawke Airmax scope.
The NPXL's differ from the NP's in that they are built on the Benji Super Streak design with a larger compression tube bore than the NP's and the Titans. And as a result of the increased power, they are tougher to cock. I measured my NPXL1100 at 47-48 pounds cocking force. The NPXL's are built with power to hunt, not to be a backyard-plinking-gun ... unless your an NFL linebacker !!! ;D
The NPXL 1100's seems to be in the range of 150-200 fps faster than the NP's. As I remember it, on the old GTA, guys were reporting upper 800's to mid 900's for mid-weight pellets (and accounting for differances of elevation when possable).
My XL1100 averages 825fps with Predators (1000ft above sea level here), Jeff's (LongIslandHunter) XL1100, I seem to remember did about 845fps with Preds, and he's close to sea level down there. Both guns are right about the differance in our elevations.
The NPXL 1500's are just crazy-fast !!!
Another plus I see for the NPXL's is that, instead of needing a spring compresser to work on it like the NP, like the Super Streaks they are based on, the NPXL's have a screw-in rear plug cap. After backing the plug out about 4-5 turns, all the preload is off the ram. Continue unscrewing and you can take all the guts out to work on it.
The NPXL's all uses the same large seal as the Super Streaks, which is J.Maccari's Walther Talon-Hunter seal.

Our Walmarts locally only have the Crossman Quest and Daisys. That is it :(
At the Cookeville one I was able to score some of those less expensive CPHP for less than $7 per tin. I bought all three packs they had! It was good too since I had just used my last one!

Paul, you are correct.... my NPXL .22 cal was shooting 845 with the predators. Once heck of a hunting rifle and deadly accurate... but definitely not for plinking.

i just picked up my 2nd titan GP, and this one is 3x the rifle the last one was.... much cleaner in worksmanship on the metal. more steady cocking effort, harder to cock, but definatly more powerfull. cleaned the bore good, and working on breaking it in
