hey guys!
so first off, i wanted to already say thanks. I've been looking at these forums for quite some time, and they have already been a tremendous help. so again thank you!
Soon, I'm hoping to buy a Remington NPSS .177 rifle. I've been doing much research, and i think ill be most satisfied with this one since i have read multiple good reviews. But! i do have a few questions:
1. if i get this, i will most definitely get one of those CBR triggers, but i don't know what id be doing. i mean I can field strip and clean an M16 (thanks to the military), but i have no experience with replacing or doing anything with the trigger. if i were to buy one, what would i have to get from the choices on the website?
"GRT-III Trigger blade
GTR-4G Trigger blade
CBR Trigger blade
QB-78 Quik-Tune seal Kit"
if and when i get both the gun and the trigger, ill probably need some help or instructions how to do it. (lol watch me jinx myself and later find out a child can do this blindfolded ::) )
2.
A.) for all the ammo that's out there, what best compliments this rifle? and which ammo is most accurate, or at least you have the best experience with? Anyone use those non-lead/high velocity pellets, and if you do which out of those work best?
B.) Now, same questions, but also to hollow points as well, (meaning which hollow points are best complimented with this gun, accuracy, etc). to be honest, I'm leaning towards the Beeman silver arrow, or the crossman premier hollow points. please give me your input if you agree or disagree
3. any specific way your supposed to clean this rifle since its a NPSS? if anyone has any insight to how different it will be to a regular break-barrel rifle, please let me know.
lol, please excuse the multiple questions. but at least I'm walking in here knowing exactly what i want and what i need answered ;)

Welcome to the GTA. I don't have one of those guns so I'm not sure which trigger. You'll be amazed how easy it is to install though. Stay away from non lead ammo. No good can come from it. Plenty of folks here have them guns and will answer more specifically.

As for the pellets, your NPSS will have it's own "flavor" of pellets it likes. Buy 4 tins from PA of different pellets. For the hollow points, CPHP's don't work very well because they hardly expand at all. They're made with a mixture of antimony and tin which results in a hard pellet. The "hollow point" expands only about .001" of an inch when shot into ballistics gel.

welcome, and great choice!
There are instructions that come with the trigger, on Charlie's sight, and on youtube. Its simple. Three screws to get the stock off, one eclip and one pin on the trigger assembly, and its out. The one you want is the black plastic CBR, unless something has changed. Charlies site will also yell you that.
Mine does best on Beeman FTS, Crosman Premier Hunting... and I tried a lot of pellets.
Clean is as described here. Search, and you will find plenty on the topic. I have had superb results with googone and patches on a cleaning rod for degreasing, and jb bore cleaner on a brass brush deep cleaning and removing deposits.

Yes, you would want to order the CBR trigger for the Remington NPSS.

awesome guys, thanks for the answers!

I put the CBR in mine, and it was a very simple task.
The Crown Saver is a good investment for the NPSS for barrel cleaning, because the shroud extends past the muzzle. I picked on up at Mac1 for about $6 and they are available online from several sources.

Crosman hollow points (CPHPs) don't expand much at all... but they shoot really well in a lot of guns and are relatively cheap. Below is a group at 25 yards when the gun was brand new. They were one of the best choices for whatever reason. Part of the fun is that no two guns are alike, so like they said before, try several different kinds.

Just interested in why you are going to choose .177 instead of .22?? Is it jus going to be for plinking or are you looking to take some small game?

well, actually, haha, in my Electro-Static engineering class, we took a break from electro-statics and were skimming some lessons in bullet trajectory/Kinematics again.
so my teacher was talking about the speed of bullets, what effect air resistence has, at what point does the Coriolis effect TAKE effect, etc.
Anyways, i was telling him i wanted to buy a pellet gun, and long story short, if i buy a .177, since it can go above 1000 FPS, were gonna do some experiments with the gun, and also film bullet trajectory on one of the teachers like super crazy cameras, so it will show rotation...etc etc. so thats why i kinda switched to .177, and on top of that, i think ima have alot more options in regards to the weight of the pellet without sacrificing FPS as much.
but i do have a question: how does the FPS hold up on a .22 cal regular lead pellet? (no super-magnum 20 grain pellet). i dont know what the regular weight of one is. i know in .177 its usually a 7.9 grain.

Missed the caliber bit... mine is .22. The NPSS is going to be in the 700 fps range in .22. I think you might hard pressed to get 1000 in .177 with lead pellets. You might try the RWS Hobbies, which are more like 5 grains? I don't have experience with this rifle in that caliber.
The "best" non-lead pellets are the Dynamics from Prometheus. However, one reason they are best is that they try to match the weight of lead pellets as much as they can. If you are after sheer speed, the Gamo PBA alloys are really fast, but highly inaccurate in my limited experience. In between somewhere are the Skencos.
Do a search for Chairgun and download it. It is a ballistic modeler for airgun pellets, and is amazingly accurate and full of information, including speed and energy at various ranges, as well as trajectory. If you haven't run across this before, you're in for a treat, given your project.
