Title: Marauder .177
Post by: tardip on February 08, 2012, 08:05:05 AM
Does anybody have experience with this rifle? What pellet does it like? Will it shoot heavy pellets like the JSB Monsters at a good fps? In need of some info.

So far in my limited testing, what pellets doesn't it like would be an easier question to answer.  Just about any domed pellet I've tried has shot great.  Wadcutters and pointed pellets open the groups up a bit.

As for heavy pellets, no problem at all.  I've currently got mine set up for the 16.1 gr. Eun Jins.  I'm getting 30 good shots averaging  about 870 fps  for about 27 FPE.  It should have no problem spitting the monsters out at any velocity you want.

WoW!!!!!Would I have to tune it to do that? If so, how? In all the reviews that I seen, people only get 950 fps with 7.9 CPH's. Boyd did you increase the velocity? I have seen where a AT-44-10 in .177 will do 950-960 fps with the Monsters. I was wondering what the Marauder in .177 would do.

Yes, tuning would be required, but it's really pretty easy once you get the hang of it.....if you have a chrony.  Out of box, the numbers you posted with the 7.9 gr. are probably about right.

Should be possible to get 950 with the monsters.  That's about 27 FPE also.  You'd probably get less than 30 shots though.

As for mods, they probably aren't even necessary to achieve that power level, but I have put a #10 hammer spring in mine and I tune it using this mod:

I've tuned from 130 shots at 12 FPE up to the 30 shots at 27 FPE and could probably take it even higher (or lower) if I wanted, just with those 2 mods.

In general PCP's like heavy pellets. My .177 Mrod likes 10.5 gr. CP and I had no trouble
Tuning the gun way over 1000 fps. At 2400 psi fills. I slowed it down to shoot in the under
950 fps.

This is getting better all the time!!! I sold all of my springers except one (Winchester 1100XSU No Way) so that I can get into pcp because of all what I have heard about them. I will be getting the MROD in .22 cal in a few weeks. I wanted a pcp in .177 to compliment it. I was thinking about the AT-44 in the pump or side lever multi-shot. I just wanted to find out what the MROD could do in .177. I use Barracuda Match in the Winchester and shoots in the 930's - 950's. If  I could get the .177 Mrod to shoot the Monsters in the 900-925 range that would be great especially on a fill of about 2400-2600 psi. Please guys out there if you have some more information please contribute. People from my experience do not normally talk about the MROD in .177. Those are some eye popping numbers.....and quiet to boot!!!! Watch Out Bunnies and Nutters!!!

I'm just getting to know my Mrod 177.  So far, it really likes JSB Exact Heavies and Benjamin Discovery.  I haven't done any mods on it and I haven't shot across my chrony either.  I just know these two pellets are the most accurate out of 8 I've shot.

Hope not in conflict ... There is a Benjamin Marauder site where likely some more detailed specifics can be found.
