Title: Few questions about tuning the Marauder and parts
Post by: TFB on February 06, 2012, 06:18:52 PM
I posted this on the Marauder site but didn't get too many responses so I'm going to retype it here.

1.  Ordering some spare parts.  I'm going to order a few breech O-rings and a few breech gaskets "just in case".  Is it best to just order them from Crosman or is there a better place to get them?  Higher quality?

2.  Hammer Springs.  Is it worth it to get an after market hammer spring?  I have seen a side by side of the stock and the aftermarket one and the aftermarket looks beefier.

Now onto the tuning aspect.

I really don't know how it was tuned or if it was tuned at all.  I have contacted the seller (bought it through GTA) to see what he had done.  I plan on putting it back on stock and tuning it myself.  Nothing against MLM, but I want to make this rifle mine.  Plus it seems like a fun project.

How do I get it back to stock?  How many turns out is the stock port valve setting?

I could be wrong but i think stock is half on everything. An old carburator/scope centering trick is to crank full one way till it stops, then come back the otherway counting your clicks/turns. Take that number and divide it by 2. That will give you the center and a good starting point. Hope that helps dude.

I sent you a message as soon as I was notified I had a message. It doesnt look like you got it. As I explained before, I set the hammer tension and hammer stroke back to factory settings. I had the velocity one turn out. I posted what I had done in the original listing. That setting gave me the best power/shot count/ noise. I was shooting that setting for a few months. I also had excellent accuracy when I toned down the fps, JSB 15.9 were shooting 780 fps. I never tuned it to its full potential, because noise is an issue, and it was just to loud at max. Hope this helps.

I did get your message.  I just didn't have a chance to reply.  Thanks!  It helps a ton.

I should have copied the original message but you edited it out.

I wasn't sure if you copied it as a reference. I forgot to throw the chrony string with the settings in the box. Have you put a scope on it yet? How is the tuning going?

Well there are a few issues.

First, I can't find a place to shoot it because most of the ranges are too short.  They're mostly designed for pistols around here so 25-50 feet max.  Even if I could find a place to shoot it, I can't bring it there.  My state says that if you are transporting a firearm, even an air rifle, it has to be unloaded and trunked.  I do not have a trunk (SUV) so I had to buy a case from PA.  I'll toss a lock on it and it will be good to go.

Problems still exist.  I had no idea high rings were so high.  I need to install a rising cheek comb.  Then I can finally shoot it.  LOL.

Wow. You do have issues. you seem to be pretty restricted out there. No rifle ranges around you?

There are but they are about 40 minutes away.  Can't do anything until I get my case.
