After 20 minutes of boulder hopping down a dry riverbed I reached a blind I made a couple weeks ago, tied some fish skins to a tree 35 yards away, put my headnet on and settled in wait for mongoose

It took a good 1 1/2 hour before the fist one showed up, it gave me a good broadside so I sent the 31ge Baracuda behind the shoulder, and the Mongoose did a 180 and disappeared in the tall grass,...WHAT ?!?! Iknow Mongoose is tought but I figured all that lead would do the job.
The next one came in and gave me a quatering away shot, I heard the pellet hit flesh, mongoose squeal, pellet hit rock after a clean pass thru and still the mongoose had enought to climb a good 10 feet of cliff and disappear in the thick grass
O.K. change in plans !!
The next 2 1/2 hours I shot 8 mongoose with neck or head shots depending on the angle given, no more runners and no misses,.....a good 4 hours hunt today ;D ;D

Nice shooting Manny and great pics! Head shots do it every time :) I had no idea HI has a big Mongoose problem. How about a camo job on the Marauder next? :)

Thanks.
Nawh, not much of a fan of camo rifles, matter of fact, ...can't stand them !! :) :)

Nice hunt and good pictures. I found that head shots are a must with mongoose. Lung/vitals shots are not enough to put them down immediately.
I got to try fish skins next time. I bet it drives them crazy.

Nice shooting Manny!

I had no idea that mongoose were so rugged.
And they survived long enough to escape, even when hit by that big .25 caliber pellet.
I wonder how Predator pellets might have done on them with boiler room shots, but I see that JSB doesn't make them in that caliber yet.

Good shooting and pic's Manny. ;) Ed

Did you have the same problem with the rainstorm?

Did you have the same problem with the rainstorm?
Definatly the Rainstorm has more knock down power, espetially with the Skenco pellets ( wish they made them in .25) but even with the EunJin the Rainstorm definatly hit harder, still with mongoose is better to have at least 10 yards radius before the California grass starts ( once they get in there can't find them)
......as for good shooting, can't take credit for that, I take credit for hunting, but for shooting, just can't, if I was using a springer I would but PCP rifles just shoot themselves, it's just too easy.

A very long time ago, when I was in the Army and stationed in HI... back when "C"-Rations were what we ate in the field. We made traps for mongoose. All you have to do is open a can so that the lid can be pushed in at a 45 degree angle then put a bit of food in it for the mongoose. Once they stick their head in the can, they won't be able to get it back out because of the lid of the can...
We did not try to eat the little buggers though.
