Title: Roof Thumpers
Post by: Bentong on January 31, 2012, 04:07:50 PM
I was watching the morning news and heard noises coming from my roof then saw one nutter jumped to the tree branch. Next time I saw was...3 nutters munching/digging on acorns right by my fence. I grabbed my modified 1377 sniper pumper then pump her 12x because I just ran out of my favorite nutter pellet...predator polymag and tried gamo hunters. I normally pump 10x but with domed pellet I might not get instant shut eye. Place the X on the nutters eye then pfff.. TWACKKK.  I though I missed my target and hit the fence but when I saw the nutter doing the circle jumps then quit moving, I said got yahh. I checked and saw that the pellet hit just above the eye and came out the other side and hit the fence. Two more nutters had no clue what happened and picked them up one at a time...this time with just 10 pumps. All 3 nutters were taken 21, 17 & 14 yrds. Got all corners of my backyard marked for such occasion.

I don't know if you can do better than 3 nutters that quick! Nice rig btw, I just built a similar 1377 sniper that hasn't been blooded in its current form yet...

Wow 3 nutters in such a short time.  Nice shooting!  That is a good looking 1377 carbine.

I have caught them in the act too.  About 2yrs ago I went out on the porch which has its own roof and attic, and heard noises above me.  Then with the corner of my eye I caught a "shadow" go across the window away from the house.  It was a squirrel that jumped from the roof to the tree branch about 8ft away from the house, when it heard me get in the porch.  I took care of it a minute later when it tried to hide in the tree.  In the past they have also chewed through my chimney cap, and fell into the family room downstairs several times, until I got it repaired with a steel mesh.  Talking about a frantic critter jumping on your furniture and hiding under the couch :)  But I think my wife was more frantic than the squirrel ;D

You just gave me flashbacks of the squirrel scene in Christmas Vacation.    :)

You need to get on the roof and cut the limbs back away from the house so they won't jump on the roof and potentially cause property damage. Great shooting!

My neighbor actually got a big acorn tree by their fence and some of the branches are on my property...this tree serves as nutters highway in my backyard. One time a got my folding chair, a can of predators and my favorite sniper pumper and waited for traffic. Didn't take long when traffic build up and nutters that I know will drop to my yard were taken. The most I've ambushed is 5 so far...there could have been more but those must be the smart nutters that kept there distance from my ambush spot. I don't take anything that will not drop in my property.

I despise squirrels! They chewed up thousands of dollars of electrical and a/c damage in my parent's house. I've shot 5 of them. I don't eat em' cuz my folks don't want me to, plus they eat garbage.

Good shooting! 2 more and thats a pot of squirrel and dumplings. Oh yeah. Make me hungry just thinking about it.

Only squirrels in the city areas eat trash. The nice grain fed ones are awesome to eat.

They're fortunate that they weren't burned down with the house from an electrical fire. Good job! ;)
