Hello everyone,
I am going to send my Crosman Quest for a tune but I do not have the original box that the rifle was purchased in. Where can I find a box similar to the one in which AG's are packed?
Thank you

Check at Lowe's, Home Depot or other hardware store and ask for any empty flourescent bulb boxes.

If you don't have one already, you can get one of these or a similar hard case real cheap and then get a box it will fit in from the UPS store.

Check with your local gun shop. My local gunshop always has a bunch of gun boxes hanging around and they are free.

I usually go to one of my local gun shops, and can almost always find one for free that they were throwing away. I support recycling, especially if it's useful, lol. :D

I mailed many a gun in the Midway heavy duty carboard, foam lined firearms shipping boxes. I found them far superior to the plastic gun cases that some people use.The guns fit tight in them and the foam is a lil stiffer. These heavy duty boxes are reusable and come in different lengths. They are a lil high. midwayusa.com

Can you ship air rifles without any hassle from the shipping company or do you need to lie about the contents so it will get shipped? I would not want to ship my rifle in the box it came in. Nowhere near enough padding to protect it from damage due to getting thrown around, and they do throw packages around.....hard.

Sqrl klr when I had to ship mine back to crosman I was looked at once and asked if it was a rifle by UPS. I had no problem sending it but I could not use a satellite UPS it had to be the main UPS site.
-
Thank you everyone for the suggestions.
Sqrl klr, I do not know if the local UPS or FedEx would have trouble shipping an AG. I will ask and hopefully it wont be an issue.
-
Best advice about shipping I have seen...... (Tks to MAC1's Tim M!)
...is to seperate the action and stock and ship in a shorter box.
Long narrow boxes tend to behave badly on the conveyer systems used to handle packages.
(think airport baggage carousels)
The only shipping damage I have experienced >:( was when an out of production airrifle was
shipped to me intact in a long narrow box. Irrepairable damage and big loss in value $$$$$ and function.
If you know what "pool noodles" are,....they make great padding/protection for barrels and actions.

I have used both to ship AG's and have not had a problem. And yes, they both knew what was inside the box

Hey thanks!! Great advice. Good thing my AG is already in pieces lol (Failed attempt at a tune that was never completed because of time and lack of tools).
Thanks again, you guys and gal(s) (Lizzie) are just the best!!

I ship USPS without any problems. I usually pack in bubble wrap. So far, no problemo.

When the boom busted, I sold off my life long collection of Winchesters( needed the money) :(I shipped many a rifle and some high dollar guns. Put them in a sock and a midway shipping box,a roll of shipping tape, all went through USPS. Not one problem, they got their rifles on time without a scatch. Have had some minor problens with the shipping companies, but not any problem with USPS...

I've had one ups store give me poo about shipping a rifle. They flat refused to ship it since they thought it was a "firearm".. after a half hour I said I can call the cops and have a officer come over here and take the time to explain to you a airgun is not a firearm and then I can call corpo and lodge the biggest complaint against this store its ever had..
They took the box and since then I've shipped one or 2 rifles.. they ask is that a gun and I say nope its mustang tie rods, a spoiler or front lip for a mustang..

I've shipped many high end PBs using UPS, FEDEX telling them exactly what was in the box and that it was either going to a FFL or gunsmith. AGs usually get shipped by USPS and have never been asked what is in the box. I've also shipped PB ammo by UPS and FedEX and as long as the box is marked correctly (learnt that the 1st time I tried to ship ammo) I never had a problem since.

Two caveats. First - Those plastic gun cases can be great but some have plastic "pillars" that are supposed to reinforce the sides. If you don't secure the gun so that it will not shift and slide within the case (a drop on the end will easily do it), the pillars will carve up the stock. Second - It is good to ship with the gun taken down. You will find more boxes, too. Downside is you have to secure the trigger. More triggers are broken this way if not well padded and reinforced.
My local gun shop finally gave me a couple of boxes after I bought a rifle and asked if they had something I could put it in, the weather being iffy. "Sure, take your pick!" Before that, I figured their boxes were made out of compressed dollar bills. "You want what?"

Oh, silly me. I built a shipping crate out of 1/4 " plywood top and bottom and 1 x 4 pine sides and ends with padded cutouts for the rifle and a separate compartment for the scope. Held it together with coarse drywall screws with Sharpie markings to indicate which screws to remove for opening. It is a crate and not a thing of beauty. Crosman did not make fun of or complain about my box. They sent the replacement rifle back in it. Of course the crate itself weighed 10 pounds and was shipping an NP Trail AW. I think the total weight was 20 lbs and it cost me about $40 to ship it UPS.
The beast has been re-configured for the Nitro Venom Dusk and is standing by if I change my mind about sending it back.
If there is a slower, more labor intensive and more expensive way of doing something, I will find it.

I did the same thing with a RWS 350 when I had it tuned. Yes shipping was more, but no problem with a damaged gun from shipping.

Thank you all so much for the help! :)
I am going to ship the AG's today and with all the information you have provided I feel confident that everything will be OK!!! 8)
