Fixing to order a VORTEK PG2 kit for one of my 350's and a JM kit for the other one. I am concedering the soft kit for the 3 RD 350. Can anyone tell me how the soft kit worked out. Then again I may just put the JM 350 mag drop in spring in taken out of one of the others for the 3rd gun.

52 views and No responce. Looks like I can forget the SOFT KIT. Full power ahead.

You just buy the first six pack of beer you see on the store shelf? Slow down! People read a post half the time out of boredom. Try asking your question over here -

I am sure you will receive an answer in due time, or even sooner. ;)

I just dont see point of a soft kit for a 350 to bring the power down to a 34's. Why not just by a 34 for less then spend the money on a vortek kit and have a vorteked 34 for the same as a bone stock 350. I buy 350 for the power and accuracy. But have neen watching this thread to read the replys out pf curiosity.
-
Thanks for the help. Both of you are right. Might get some answers later as said. And to the buying a 34 and vorteking it is an idea. I got 3 of the 350's and was just thinking about playing with the 3rd one. I too like the power but I do like the softer shooting for the back yard. Thanks again for you replies.
-
Did I read that right? A Vortec kit will put a 34 up to a 350???
-
No sir. A soft kit will drop a 350 to the power level range of a 34. Would make it basically a vorteked 34 for more $$$.
And i under stand the need to tinker! Very few of my guns are stock.
-
Well how much will a vortex give a 34? Or maybe which will add more a vortex or a Maccar?
-
Vorteks seem to up the power on the 34 a little bit but they are more about a smoother shot cycle. It uses a sleeve to keep the spring from canting, for one thing. In reality, the 34 benefits to about the same degree from either JM's parts or a Vortek kit.
I've heard of folks detuning the 350 (or BAM28 clone) slightly to get a bit better shooting gun. Haven't heard of someone taking it down to the 34 level. There doesn't seem to be much advantage to that since you are using a big power plant inefficiently.
-
I saw no power increase from a Vortek over the JM kit. I prefer the shot cycle of the JM.
-
My point. Tinkering. 350 down to a tuned 34 is the claim but not a true 34. Not sure which way this goes. Either way I have the extra 350 already and the cost to ramp up the 34 or de-ramp the 350 is the same investment. I have the power of the 350 with in the .22 pro 8 land barrel and the .177 pro 12 land barrel. Guns shoot great. The other a 12 land .177 at this time, or could be a .22 due to the extra barrel, I just want to calm down the guns. Smooth out the recoil. Both guns, with the JM DROP in SPRING WILL and sling an accurate pellit with top chrony speeds. These guns are not sharp shooter or match rifles. They are heavy hitters and require a good steady hold. Might say they are action rifles. Very busy.
-
I would say, being such a fan of the 350, you are sure to like it in any power-level it comes in. Variety is the spice of life, and having 3 guns with different power levels would make for an enjoyable way to compare and contrast them. You don't have much to lose in trying a soft tune kit other than a few $$ and a bit of your time installing the kit. I know I'm a fan of smooth, easy-cocking guns over ones with higher power, so a softer kit would be a definite draw for me too.
I say go for it and have some fun with your 350/34. ;D Let us know how it goes. If you don't like it, you can always go back. :D

Vortek installed in .177 pro converison and JM ZRT AND SOFT KIT on order. Just got to speed that $$ and try the soft kit. VORTEK PG2 has made an improvement. Going to shoot the rest of the day since the next door folks are gone. That short barrel and speeds of 970s is still loud for the back yard.
-
Well I don't own a 350 but I do have 2 B28's and a Ruger Air Mag. Clones of the 350. My .177 B28 has a Vortek softkit in it and it is a great shooter, very easy to control, very solid and nice looking gun too. My other 2 have the full strength Vortek kits in them and they shoot very hard but are easy to control as well. I shoot my B28 low power more than any of my other guns. I get 975 FPS with it at high altitude. The RAM gets 1020 fps both using the CPL 7.9 grain pellets.
-
Well here are the facts from the FANG:: The VORTEK kit benefits the .22 Pro COMPACK much more than the Pro .177 comparison. .22 IS smoother shooting, Even better groups. This kit helped the .177 even a 12 lander! This gun with the JM drop in spring and Now the Vortek Kit is still a handfull but for a 12 lander is not pellet picky. Sorry Critter. :) At this point I HAVE ALL OF THE gang eating out of the same bowel now. Shooting the Discoverys and the CPUM and the RWS DOMED. Anything bellow the 10 factor in the .177 goes ballistic. Better have your DUCKS in a row FOR THE pro .177. If you go my route,Rember; No 2 guns are the same. Could not HAD a better weekend OF SHOOTING!!!!

"I HAVE ALL OF THE gang eating out of the same bowel now."
The pic in my mind from that was priceless! ;D But you owe me a keyboard since I spewed bourbon & water all over it. ;) Tom

That some speed in a compact. Glad they are all up and running and everything was successful. I understand the need to tinker im always building and adjusting something. Good to know what the soft kit does and how it works out.
And whered you get your spare barrel? Does it already have a breech block on it or do you have the know how to change one out?

Got the extra barrel from the conversion from .22 LONG BARREL to .177 PRO. Conversion .177 PRO Barrel came from Umarex. $150.00, MUZZLE BRAKE Umarex $75.00, VORTEK PG2 $89.00 and GUN Umarex. All three 350s came from them and the hey! .22 AS WELL and others. They (Umarex has been good to me.)

Install the soft kit in the .177 classic. Now it is a smooth shooting 350/34. Fired about a 100 or so through the gun and have not put the gun on the chrony. Going to fire a few more 100 and then chrony. Put a new seal in and a barrel clean. FIRST thought was this may be where the 12 land barrel may suffer. Accuracy was suffering till the gun had some breaking in of the new parts and some lead in the barrel. I still say this may be a down side of slowing the gun down for the 12 lander. Gun is smooth and much less to handle, just a heavy gun. Still the .177 compack is a handful with the VORTEK kit. Accuracy did not suffer on that 12 lander. I have the JM SPRING and guides setting on the shelf for a latter install to see the difference. The kit did improve the characteristics of the gun but still got recoil out the rear. True magnum gun. Tried some H&N rabbits in the gun. Waste of money. They hang out the breach on this gun. Not a good pellet to barrel match. Over all the .22 compack vorteck and the .177 classic soft kit resulted in the best improvement for the changes.

Fang I'm glad that they've good to you ;D. My 34's main spring broke and I was told that I would have to pay shipping both ways to get it looked at. The gun is 4 months old. They sent me a prepay and told me that if it was found not to be a defective spring I would have to pay bench charge, repair charge and shipping to and from Umarix :o. I sent to Daina Germany and asked if they could help. >:(

Rick, I am sorry for you. Springs are the weak link in these guns I have been told. By the time you pay the freight you could order 1 form the above. They both have good service and good products. If the 350 spring would fit, I have plenty of those. 3 stock and 2 JM drop in on my shelf. I would just give you 1 of the factory springs. I am still working hard. Looks like I am going to oversee a $22 mil project as a construction manager. Already a busy year. This job is to last 19 + mouths and is at the same site I am presently at. GOOD LUCK!! Let me know if I can help. You might want to go ahead and get you a piston seal while your doing this. I guess since you said they might charge you bench time that Umerex is getting the complete gun. If that is the case I would request a rebuild as well.
-
Fang. Good to see all the stable up and d shooting good. And good luck on the new project.
Ric thats crazy about umarex. Id just order the vortek kit with seal and have a silky smooth pinpoint accurate gun. The t06 guns are very easy to work on.
-
Jm contacted me and advised me to use the lighter pellets for the soft kit. 8 gr and below. That explains low fps with the 10.3 gr. Still gun is smooth and accurate. That's what it is all about. I going to send Rick one of the factory 350 springs to play with. Don't know if it will do him any good but it's free. Spring kits are the way to go on these guns. THANKS!!!
-
Yeh I've had it apart and the spring can be handled with out a compressor if careful. I'm thinking of getting one of the squeeze clamps from Home Depot. Should work with the barrel off. I just used a wood block for the time being. The seal didn't look to bad. Got 2 seals coming. A JM and a factory. I think I will put the JM in the 48 that will be coming later. Will post pics as soon as it gets here with chrony results. That's coming too. Christmas Rickey

Finally got the chance to chrony the 350 classic .177 with the JM soft kit. Gun shoots great even with the 10.5 discovery's. Finding out that the spring is for lighter ammo was the trick. 10.5 CHRONY out around 695. I thought that was off. After switching to the lighter ammo the results were great. 8.5 ammo chrony out on and average of 810. Gun is dead on and very smooth. Cocking is super light vs the 350 JM DROP IN SPRING or VORTEK SPRINGS. This conversion made a sweet 350 mag. and still has great power with the lighter ammo. I run around 250 or rounds through the gun and it just seems to getting even smoother.
