We get a lot of surprise rains around me. I'd never go hunting if I tried to always avoid it. But I do not want my gun/scope to get wet even if it is waterproof. Do you carry anything with you to cover it up if it starts to rain?

I don't use anything to cover my guns to keep out of the rain. A good wipedown at the end of the hunt and a little Ballistol on a rag to wipe everything with has worked for me for all my guns, including powderburners.

If I'm going hunting and I think it might rain will usually take a large plastic bag with me, like the large leaf and lawn bags or perhaps a large kitchen garbage bag. I fold it up tightly into a small square packet and stick it in my pocket. If it starts to rain I pull it out, slip it over the air rifle and then head back to my truck. I've done this several times while I was out hunting and got caught in a down pour and it's worked well for me.

Up here in the hills downwind of the great lakes, it can go from rain to snow, and back to rain, just by walking up or down hill a few hundered feet. I put Butler Creek flip-up scope covers on all my scopes, keep the guns well oiled, and keep the muzzle pointed downward while in the field. Pull it apart and dry and re-oil it when I get home.
Good idea Jeff. I've got some long, narrow plastic bags that I get tubes of upholstery supplies delivered in. Gonna put one in my gear bag.
