except this time not all was well... these 3... were all in the pecan tree (aka nutter farm), and all were visibly injured... all were taken at various heights... at about 18 yds. all were taken with the CFX .22, and FTT domed. the first nutter... was a trooper. i hit him... chest shot, but because of the angle, i must not have hit vitals... he fell and ran. i couldn't see where he went, so i reloaded and watched... he went back up the tree, but on the other side. i figured he would expire, so i took aim at atnother... perfect headshot. reloaded and took aim at another, perfect headshot. i reloaded, and had a 2nd pellet in my hand... walked over to tree, and peered around it... there is the nutter, on the ground, breathing. i quickly raised the shooter, and took aim, and he stood up, and bolted. he ran to a nearby pine tree, and i put another pellet in between his shoulderblades.... he scampered up the tree after the shot... and layed down on a branch. i then reloaded iwth my last pellet on hand, and rested against the pecan tree and took careful aim at his head.... nutter down, at about 28 yds. i went over to him and he was a poor sunova @#$@#%. he had a large botworm growing in his arm, that shortly evacuated, and was covered in mange, and pellet holes... and not just my 3... i counted a total of about 6... all were festered and disgusting. i moved onto the other 2... one had a pellet hole, in its head, and another one right next to it. the 3rd one, also had a broken leg... for an unknown reason, and multiple pellets in it. all the holes are small, with the exception of one. the 2nd nutter, had what appeared to be a .22 caliber pellet in its head... likely my shot that didn't kill it, on a previoius excursion. it happens.
nutter #1, with botworm you can see how many shots he took... guts knocked out and all... yes i feel horrible....

Gotta say your really getting a nutter count this year bro, ;) great shooting and pic's. That one nutter was a warrior taking the shot's and hanging in there, I salute him.
-
ok, would that be a warble fly? or a botfly?
-
Nice haul there! Yes that one was a real fighter!
-
I have no clue what that is...never seen that before. Good shooting, bro.
-
Good shooting, looking forward to more hunting stories.

Nice shootin' Ed. Looks like you done that squirrel a favor by putting him out of his misery.A mercy kill so to speak. Yep, we grew up calling them "wolves' aka botfly larva. After a little cooler weather sets in they'll all disappear. Just one of natures cruel realities. It's not unusual to find them in summer and early fall. I've shot many that had multiple wolves and likewise many that had healed up after the little buggers had matured and evacuated.

Nice shooting. The question still remains though, who is putting all these non-lethal holes in These nutters?

He had a thread about somebody shooting an underpowered or crappy shooting person. ME? I would rather shoot at the head and MISS than take a bread basket shot and have them get away. That's just me. I would HAVE to find that person and teach them to shoot!! ;)

Good shooting and great pics. Nice haul.
I've run into those botfly larvae a few times and they are certainly disgusting !!

THE NUTTER definatly was in pain. i could tell from the way it was moving... its movements were slow and deliberate, and as hard as it tried to get away... it was so crippled

Nice shooting Ed. I think that's a magical pecan tree that produces squirrels :) Can you please send me a little branch so I can plant it in my yard? :)
That's some tough Grays you got there!
