Title: With all the stuff going on in my (little) AG world, its good to relax and shoot
Post by: VAFarmer on January 17, 2012, 08:45:56 PM
some good groups.

Shot some very good groups tonight at 11 and 16 lasered yards.  4 of my 6 10-shot groups were under .25 inch. 2 of em about the size of a .22 cal pellet.

Low light, and wind gusting too!

What were these shot from?  Not my lights out accurate ar 2078.  Not my just as accurate steroid.  Not the b-25 Ive been trying to wring out ( waiting with fingers crossed on some pellets) no.

Shot from the lowly Daisy 953.   Got a Golden Antler on it. Have done some internal polishing, have filled the piston partly in with epoxy for additional velocity. Cut the hammer spring down some. Have polished the bore slightly.  Did have to iron it out a little, but just because it was used.

If you want a couple decent guns to hook folks with, and just have some easy, good shooting fun here is a great 1-2 combo that are relatively easy to operate, repair, and tweak al little.

Daisy 953 and Beeman P-17.  I got both of these guns used from RobNY.   Bought one, and traded him an older 760 for one.  So best I can tell, I have around 80 bucks in these including shipping.
Still, new....you are probably looking at 160 bucks shipped from a place like Pyr. for the pair.

Both of these guns are WAY more accurate than thier price reflects.  Both are plastic, so guests/kids who might be shooting don't have to be on pins n needles (or YOU, for that matter) while handling them.
Both of mine seem to shoot just about anything well, and a couple REAL well.

The 953 seems to easily have enough energy for 20 yd starling control.  I need to see what velocity Im getting now with the piston mod.... shoot, might take a rabbit at 10yds or so.
Cant wait till I get a good still day, gonna stretch the 953s legs out to 30-40 yds.

Just rambling, and basking in the satisfaction of good groups for a change of pace from working with/ developing a gun into what I want.

God bless,

Farmer

Glad to see you're having fun. That's what it's all about. And BTW, rabbits die way easier than you think.

Youre right, they do go down easier.  Squirrels are alot tougher IMO.

I used to know this old feller, he could kill a rabbit at 25 yds with a slingshot.  And this was a handmade job, with rounded stones, no composite arm-brace and steel shot.

Thanks for the reply :)  and youre right, sometimes project rifles take on a life of thier own, and you forget that is about shooting.

God bless,

Farmer

Funny you should mention the slingshot. The very first rabbit I ever killed was with a slingshot and a rock. A solid hit to the shoulder done him in.
