Title: Suggestions ?
Post by: william71743 on January 16, 2012, 11:00:23 PM
I finally got a chance to shoot my new QB57 (.177 cal.) today. All in the ten ring at ten yrds. With my eyes and open sites, I was OK with that.  Now the question is would anyone care to recommend scope and mounts ? I also went shopping for pellets for my .22 cal. B 25 with no luck, nothing in these parts except crosman CPHP. So, I guess I'm going to have to get a order together for a scope & mounts and sampler pack or some different kinds of pellets . Any ideas, thoughts ?  Pellets for the B 25 ?......... Scope & mount for the QB 57, what do you have or what would you do different ?

I find the BKL scope mounts are the best out there i use the on almost all my guns.Great for long range shooting.Center Point make a pretty good scope that wont brake the bank.

Check with ^&$@_=s site.  I am setting mine up with his 11 mm to weaver adapter.

And then using a weaver quick release mount.  I have both caliber barrels and this will allow me to use one scope with both barrels.  I understand mr. Archer is trying to find another source of scopes at the shot show since BKL has discontinued their line of long relief scopes.

This is with the 5th Gen bug buster.

The bug buster did not have enough eye relief so I installed a NcSTAR 2.5X30 Postol scope which is just right for me.

Everything in its place in the suitcase.

I plan on getting another case and glue/affix the two bottoms together to carry the other caliber barrel plus some misc items, cleaning kit etc.

How is the trigger on your QB57? Mine has a very long travel and a hard release.  Has any one come up with electronic trigger for these guns?

Got a micrometer?  If so, sort thru the Crosmans.   Find some that are common head size.  What I did this weekend was sorted by .2165 and under , then .2165 to .2175, then .2175 and above.

Grouped horribly with .2165s and under.

Grouped what I would consider average for a sub -300 spring rifle with .2165s to .2175s...

Grouped quite well with .2175s and up, to the tune of covering a 7 shot group with a dime at 15 yds.  Not the best by any strech, but for a sub-200 springer in .22-open sighted--not too shabby.
So, 5.53 mm should work.   I contacted 2 of the "specialty airgun stores" this weekend.  Asked if they knew the head sizes of some of thier specialty type pellets, in general.   One replied back with "Can't help you there" and never heard from the other.
So, I went to Pyramyd and orderd some 5.53 Barracudas, and some 5.54 FTTS.  We'll see how they work.....if one does well, I will drop you a few to test with.
Be patient and I will let you know results.   Or if you wanna try some on your own, order H&N's in various head sizes from there, buy 3 get one free.  Then add your scope and mounts from there, and take 10 % off the order.
Leapers scopes are very recoil resistant, and won't break the bank.    Just gonna have to go small on your scope, or that thing looks like it will be a front-heavy beast.

Good luck and God bless,

Farmer

Thanks for the pictures, I like the way you have yours set up so I'm sure going to look at doing something similar . I don't have a problem with the trigger it is a long first stage, but not too hard and it is consistent second stage . I haven't heard of any electronic options yet.

Thanks for the info Farmer, I do have a mic. but I haven't checked any yet, I think I'll do that while I'm waiting.  My scope is a 4x -16x 40mm Leapers and you are dead on about it being a front heavy beast. The balance is just behind where the barrel breaks. Which may probably isn't helping  my hold problems . I'm having scope cant issues too, when I  tighten it, it raises up on the side where the allen screws are and then it's not in center line with the barrel, the main reason I'm changing the mount. I'm probably going to a KLB mount, not for sure yet. I'll be making a order for pellets and mount. I'd really like to know the results of your pellet testing, It sounds like you've got it working for you already !
                         Looking forward to your results......william

Get some elastic or something, and try to temporarily drape some weight at the back of that sucker.   See if it helps.

Take your best position, and shoot only from it.    If its rested, fine.  If your hand rested, fine.  Brace your body good.

The B-25 is really a great rifle, but need to be sorted thru.  They can be quite rough, shot cycle-wise.

Well working for me is a point of view......:)   I refuse to sit and sort thru Crosman HPs in the tin to find 1 in 10 that has the correct head size.   Not for a hunter.

Keep ya posted, and have a blessed evening.
