Title: Munk #3 down... no pic.
Post by: timegoat on September 13, 2010, 02:37:52 PM
Taking a break from updating my site with a few shots at paper and sure enough #3 pops out of a hole somewhere around the 32yd range. He just stood there on his hind legs long enough to let me load up a CPHP. Went down on all fours while I got a bead on it. Since I hit a little low on the first two munks I aimed just a little higher up this time. Let fly and heard a much more solid thunk than the other two.

Went out back for pics, but it was nowhere to be seen. However, there are 4 burrow holes within a couple feet of where he was standing, so I figure he had enough energy left to scurry back home.

Starting to wonder how many are actually back there. The spot this guy was in has about 10 burrow holes all in the same area, and that's only one of the 4 distinct and separate home piles I've seen them bolt in and out of. Gonna have to keep my eyes open.

On another note, I saw a bunch of crows scatter from the stand of trees that the gray squirrel climbed up into after I shot it. One of the crows looked like it was carrying something away in its beak, but it's back was to me so I can't tell for sure. The crows usually hang out across the street on the other side of the house. It's very unusual to see them on my property. Guess I gave them a free lunch. :)

#4 down. Same deal as #3. Solid hit but vanished into it's burrow. The pic attached is the biggest of the 4 home lands out back. For an idea of range, woodhenge (top left) is 32.5 yds from my shooting window.

Good shooting and sounds like they can be like the G-hogs you hit em good and they drop back into their dens. :( Ed

Seems to be the case. Guess I can't blame them, if I got a chunk of lead thrown at me I'd run home too. :)

Those crows are fast Mark.  I've caught them snatching a squirrel from me within minutes of me shooting it.  Two crows died trying.

Nice shooting Mark!  Yeah those crows will snatch your critter very quickly.  I had a few come out of nowhere within 2min. and were trying to eat the squirrel I had shot.  They always go for the eyes first.  But that was 3+yrs ago when they weren't afraid of me or my property.  That was the 1st day I shot one trying to steal my squirrel.  Now I just get a glimse of them flying 100-150yds away while they stick their tongue out at me :D

They were pretty quiet in the tree too. Didn't even know they were there until they started flying out and away from the house. I'm just glad to know the squirrel that got away didn't go to waste. Something other than a house cat got a meal out of it.

Been getting some practice with the H&N Crow Mags I picked up a while back, not as accurate as CPHPs or Superdomes, but as long as they're in the 30yd range, I should get 'em... if they give me a chance between now and Nov 30. Doubt they will. Couldn't see them at all from my shooting window and they're rarely on my property. :)
