Title: 5 bandits in 1 night!
Post by: only1harry on September 12, 2010, 03:18:09 AM
My backyard is sure getting some serious traffic at night lately.   Word must be traveling fast about my cat food among the bandit population  :D

First I had a fairly big one come in at 9:30pm (the earliest ever).  Then at 11:15pm another slightly smaller/avg. sized one came in.  He stayed for >10min. and ate 3/4 of the cat food.  Then at 1:40am a family of 3 arrived together!  which is why I am up so late :)  1 was normal sized (15-18lbs), 2nd one was HUGE.  I mean fat all around, probably another 24-25lbs like the one I shot in December of '08, maybe heavier.  The 3d one was a little one, probably born this Spring.  I can see the big one being its mother, but not sure what the regular sized one was.  Maybe its offspring from last year, still hanging around? or its sister?  I left the flood lights off tonight and like I suspected they all came.  They don't come as often or as many of them when I leave those powerful lights on.  I had to turn on the gun light on the .25 Condor to see what's out there.
This means I had 4 out of the 5 (minus the young one) in my crosshairs.  It was very hard for me not to shoot, but I endured the ordeal and restrained myself.  I hope I can hold out until October when raccoon season starts :)   Now would be a good time to start taking bets, or maybe start a poll if I can last until middle of October without shooting a bandit?  hehehe  ;D

Man!  I know what you mean about willpower!  I've got a bunch in the low lands and I know where a TON of them live that I can travel and shoot.  However, our season starts NEXT WEEK! I'll squirrel hunt and call coyotes until then, but after that WATCH OUT raccoon world!

I am with Wade, I don't know if I can hold out.

I think the season starts Oct.15 not the 1st.  I need to check the web site again.  If it's a whole month I have to wait, I forsee 1 "less" bandit by then, hehehe  :D

Ray, you have found out a spot where they congregate, move around or their dens?

Harry, just think how good you'll feel if you "bite the bullet" and resist the urge to start the season "early"  :)   When you take that first bandit on Oct. 1st you sit back and be so proud of yourself for waiting all these weeks and setting an example for the rest of us.

Sorry buddy, I just couldn't resist "busten em"  LOL   :)

Thanks Jeff, I can always count on your for sound advice :)

You are making it really hard for me to start the season "early", hehehe.  I will do my best to set a good example, but my best may not be good enough  ;D
