::)well, all Santa was good to me.
I am looking for a .22 that is for: attempting to plink at small targets (down to 3\8 spinner at 20 yards, I love a good frustration..), an occasional evil zombie squirrel, and showing off to my brother at the range. The accuracy I'd like is: rested off a sandbag, less than an inch for 10 shots at 40 yards accurate (and the ability to actually do that). I already have a Diana 48 that I dig, and I want something a bit lighter.
I have an R9 in 177, at one point, I actually told that rifle that I loved it, ( and then the energy in the Vortek spring dropped precipitously totally messing up our relationship) I want to feel the same about my next purchase.. ;D
My choice is between a Diana 34, T-06, that I could drop a JM or Vortek kit in, or an untuned HW 95. With the Diana I still have enough coin left over to get a scope. I have looked at all of the opinions and find it strange that the majority of the discussion lies with the "t-05 trigger" vs the "Rekord" Does the T-06 negate the slight populist advantage that the R9\HW 95 seemed to have. Is the Diana 34 really the best rifle dollar for dollar that is out there, or does the "quality" and "finish" and Rekord make it worth the fact that I won't be able to see any targets past 25 yards... what do you all think

I have a 34 T06 and it is a very nice, accurate rifle and the trigger is terrific. I have never shot an HW95 so I can't say firsthand how they compare. Based on what I've read by those who have both, the 95 wins hands down. BTW, I put a Vortek spring (not a Vortek Kit) and piston seal and promptly lost 10% of the power I had with the stock spring. So I ask, why put the Vortek kit in a 34 if you had a bad result with it in the 95?

waiting for my 34 t06. after shooting my buddy's i had to Return the titan gp. just couldn't get it right

Well, a couple of reasons why I would use a Vortek product again:
1. I have put them in other rifles, like a Diana 460 in .22 and they were great. Lots of Power (26-27 FPE) and still a very tolerable, smooth shot cycle and affordable. I had a very early kit and a number of the springs in the earliest version according to what you read, had the same challenge. Hey it's manufacturing..from what I read, he has changed the springs and the issues are "resolved". Now if it happens again, well then shame on me...
2. I like how Tom at Vortek handles his business. He has called me personally to discuss if I want to have a certain spring or other. I appreciate the fact that he is trying something "new" (ish) and makes a product that gives me a good result despite my lack of mechanical aptitude...
Now that being said, I had a fantastic Diana 48 177 tuned by Rob Hawkins with a JM kit, and frankly, it was awesome: 905 fps with FTT and I literally could hit a thumbtack at 50 yards benched ( I did it while I was at the range and the PB guys couldn't believe it..) I actually sold that rifle and used the funds to get my HW 97. I still miss that rifle....

Well, the 34 will NEVER be the 95, no matter how you wrap it.
Wood and bluing are nicer, balance is better on the 95, and the rekord leaves little to be desired.
95's tend to have a kind of gritty/grinding type of cocking sound before they are lube tuned.
34's seem to come bone-dry, and lots of twang before a lube tune.
Both are round the same power output, with a good soft tune on each yeilding 13-14 ftlbs, and a normal to slightly high output tune can sometimes go 17 ftlbs. Me personally, I'd rather sacrifice the 3 ftlbs for a short, quick, thump.
I am by no means a markman, but 1 inch at 40 is easily within both guns' capacity with a good lube tune, with better groups generally going to the 95.
Here is the sticking point for me, cause I am cheap :) ........I can get 2-34's untuned for the price of 1 HW 95, all untuned. A T05 trigger can be made adjustable, and darn close to a Rekord. Within 30 yds, a 34 can go the distance with the 95.
I also work on my own guns.....something you want to consider. You can save tremedous money if you do.....to the tune of 200 bucks.
I actually use the clones of the 34 now, they are usually just as accurate.
Were it me, I'd get the 34, lube tune it myself, maybe have the barrel shortened prfofessionally, all for around what I'd hve in the 95 stock.
But when you go to sell, the tuned 34 is still gonna be a 34,,and the Hw is an HW. Higher used values tend to maintain in the Beemans...
God bless.

I have a T-05 Panther in .22 that is every bit as accurate as my .177 95. So either one will do what you want. With a simple spring change to the T-05, the triggers are close to equal. Some people say the T-06 trigger is better than a tuned T-05. Have you thought of just getting a new barrel for your R9? It might be cheaper in the long run.

Hmm...
How much is a new barrel in .22 for an R9 . Jim do you have any insight. ???

IMO the HW guns are made way better than the Diana's, and a 95/R9 is a very nice quality airgun the Diana's are also good gun's but their not near the quality of the HW's that's why they cost 2x as much because you get 2x the quality of the Diana, if you get a good Diana it will serve you well, I personally don't care for the 34's and I've had several of them, you can feel the quality in your hands of the HW's over the Diana's without ever firing a shot! and as said the rekord trigger adjusted correctly is second to none accept a match trigger and the accuracy of the HW's speak for themself's just my 2ct :P
-
You are kind of comparing bushnell and leapers scopes right now. Yea the leapers work and are good for the money but once you get that nice bushy 3200 you will never go back. IMO, there is no comparison. The 34 is a nice gun for the money but the 95 should be worth every penny. I have had two R9s and both were and still are tack drivers. There is a good reason that they are priced higher than the Diana's and that's because it's a better product
-
+1, HW if you can afford it, fit, finish, Rekord trigger, no comparison, shoot it right out of the box.
-
Well, heck, why not look for a TX? :D

The best airguns I have owned have been the rws line of airguns in my signature, of course this is because of my limited funds.
I did a lot to my 34's and 350. New springs from vortek and a kit for the 350, a complete tune and hone, lubes from maccari and a trigger polish and an addition of a first stage screw and spring swap on the t05's.
I Love these guns they are very accurate , have been shooting lesser airguns for 24 years makes you a way better shot with better ones. My guns will clover leaf around a pellet hole at 24 yards if i do my part, benched of course.
I have had more fun with these than any other ones, and have made many posts in the hunting gate of mice that have had head and body shots from these at 24 yards.
The choice is yours in the end, I bought what I could afford with family and all, and glad i went the route I did.
Good luck in your decision.

@thekid: great post man. Get what you can afford, make the most of it and have fun. Doesn't matter if it's a B-3 or a TX200, a bad day shootin's better than a good day at work.

thanks to all of the replies. I will let you know what I come down to when I make the purchase... 8) im leaning toward either the HW 95 ...or two 34's... ;D
-
If I may ask, why two D34's? I thought you were looking for one rifle. Just because you can buy two Diana's for the price of the HW doesn't mean we want you to. ;)

Well, he could get one in .177 and the other in .22, just for grins. :D

Think he was talking break barrels RF...:)
Well, heck, why not look for a TX? :D

Like VA Farmer said. "Well, the 34 will NEVER be the 95, no matter how you wrap it.". Both guns are made in Germany but not the same Fraulein's... :)
-
Lizzie is spot on. 2 34's sounds better to the greedy part of me. My 34p became a very smooth rifle, accurate to use in HFT after shooting 1000 or so pellets through it, no tune. My 48r with a tune and trigger tune by Rob Hawkins had a very nice t05 trigger, not as good as my HW 97 or R9, but light and very useable in FT. My R9 is still a bit buzzy, after I have lubed, polished, and replaced both seals. In these tough times, I'm starting to ask.. is a .22 R9 really as good as TWO Diana 34's..(Rekord v t-06, same power, 34 a bit less accurate, but just a bit....)
Is it really as big a difference as has been stated... German quality..absolutely, HW superiority.. yes, Best Value..ahhh I don't know...
Anyways, thanks for all of the awesome discussion and advice, you all are a great resource...I appreciate your time, and thank you. I'll post more after purchase...

the answer with the HW is build quality and accuracy not power, the 34's will usually shoot alittle harder than the R9/HW95 and the Dianas are not as refinded! JMHO :P
-
I have never shot an hw but i love my RWS's. They are nice shooters and with a little work they are saweet! The t06 triggers are nice but there is nothing wrong with the 05 triggers. You will probably loose a little power with vortek kits but they smooth out the shot cycle so much its well worth it.

I equate the HW vs. RWS debate to driving a Honda or driving a BMW. Both do the same thing and they do it with the same amount of efficiency. For this debate we could say accuracy. Or twanginess. The HW will look better but the RWS gives up nothing in the performance department. The tipping point for me is that both need or greatly benefit from a tune or spring/guide kit.

To me, the RWS is the pragmatist's shooter, lol. I love model 34's, and my third one should hopefully be sitting in the post office. I'd love to have an HW30, but if I did, I would probably be hesitant to shoot it, because I'd be afraid of marring it. :D

All this talk of great German guns pressured me to order another Beeman to add to the RWS/Beeman collection...This sickness/addiction is gonna get me in trouble with the wife AGAIN! LOL! Just pushed the button on a Beeman R9 in .177 I've been going back and forth on for years... Can thank all of you and your "peer pressure" talk, working on my weaknesses again...Just bought from AGD using the discount code sb10off, for a 10% discount! Love all these guns. Maybe this coupon code will help with your decision? Love all my 34's, 34 clones, R1, and soon to be R9! They ALL have Vortek PG2 smooth power, thanks to Tom
gore! Good Luck!
Cheers!
