The other day, late in the afternoon, I took a ride to the duck farm with the .22 Condor to see if I could find a g-hog. The g-hogs were keeping a low profile but I did see some starlings that kept perching on this old telephone pole. I didn't want to use the Condor for starlings so I broke out the "truck gun" I keep under the back seat. The gun is my trusty refurb Winnie 800 that I picked up awhile back for $30 bucks but she's one deadly little shooter. Anyway, I parked the truck and took up a sniping position inside the closest barn. The first 3 birds to land met their fate quickly. I guess the other birds saw what was going on because no other birds landed on that pole. I snapped a couple of pics for the good old GTA Hunting Gate before I left the farm.
After I left the duck farm I took a ride over to the vegetable farm to see if I could harvest a g-hog before the sun went down. I roamed the farm until the sun set and while I did see a couple of g-hogs I couldn't get a shot off. Just before I called it quits, as I was walking through some high, thick weeds in one of the farm fields, I suddenly saw the grass up ahead moving and I could tell something in the grass was headed straight for me. I stopped and stood perfectly still and all of a sudden this little g-hog came waddling out of the weeds into the open. He saw me and froze. The distance between us was about 5 feet. He gave me plenty of time to get out my cell phone and snap a pic of him before he darted off into the weeds again. As he ran away I told him I'd see him again next year when he was bigger and hopefully smarter.

Jeff I was just thinking the same thing about the Starlings and winter weather. I can't wait for them to start hitting the suet cakes again. Nice shooting and story.

Nice story and shooting with your "truck gun" Jeff! I always like seeing Starlings on their back :)
I have not seen any Starlings here for over a month. As for that G-hog, he has no idea how lucky he was :) Even though the young ones have more tender meat, it was nice of you to give him a pass. I couldn't shoot anything 5ft away from me either.
I would go back to the farm soon Jeff. It's supposed to be a very nice day today in the mid-high 70's and I 'm sure the G-hogs will be out trying to fatten up more for the winter.
