Title: spyder 68 cal to .22 cal pellet conversion
Post by: one_shot on December 29, 2011, 05:00:29 PM
last year i started this project, worked on it for a few days, relized i was missing the expansion tube, and my tank was empty.
all this work is crudely done with a drill, bits, files, hack saw.
just wanted to see if it worked out before polishing a $)((#!

i put it aside and forgot about it,till a recent thread brought my memory up to speed.
so i threw it back together and fired about 100 rounds sofar.
i just chronnied her at 2 passes
high 464
low of 458

thats a solid 6 fpe running on all stock valves, ill have to see about modding the internals.
my goal is 600 fps on the low end.
she auto cocks, but have to load and seat the pellets manually to shoot.

parts used!

-older model spyder(the one with the oring sealed anti chop bolt)
-hammerli x2/mendoza rm2006 .22 cal barrel

i had all this lying around doing nothing.works better than i expected.
no sights but seems to be fairly accurate.
i shot a soda can at 35 yards.

heres some pics and a vid!

these pellets are cphp's fired at a brick backstop at 10 yards.

im about 200 rounds into this gun, getting the hang of aiming it.
i plan on a weaver rail up top,and stock of some kind.
buying a new pbg barrel to stabilize the long .22 barrel.
i get alot of flex during the shot.
after 200 rounds my 20 oz tank feels about 3/4 full...still heavy.

heres a 5 shot group,4 in 1 hole,1 stray!
maybe it was just luck....but im liking my luck sofar!
its very difficult to aim this awkward peice in the same place twice.

keep us posted on your build. There are so many ways you could go with that.
maybe shroud it.

My 1322 only puts out a little over 450fps and it deadly on birds up to 20 yards. very quiet too all you hear is the pellet impact on the bird or whatever i shoot.

I would be more than pleased with a setup like yours, you just need to find a way to
attach a very thin/strong probe somewhere in there to push the pellet in as you close the breach and your set. Is there a way to add a probe inside that anti chop bolt, I am looking at my very old piranha pb marker and i see a way it can be done. just a thought.

I plan on pulling the bolt apart, there is a divider that bolts in there, ill make a new divider with a probe, instsall bigger orings to help seal her up better.
Everytime i shoot i feel a blast of air in the face,
Im sure it equals a fps loss.
Will move the barrel back aswell.
Lots of other goodies aswell.
But im offshore at the moment.

Thanx

Hi, working on a similar project and thinkng a customed breech might work better to keep air tight. Pcp and pball valves are similar if not identical imo.
