Title: Tell me I'm not crazy
Post by: dwk54rak on December 26, 2011, 02:26:01 PM
::) I just purchased a ar2079a from @#$%^. I sighted it in for 10 yards and started to get bored with the small groups. I have the range to shoot 50 yards at my house, so I settled on 40 yds and a clam shell laying on the other side of the canal behind my house. I had no idea what kind of hold to put on this shot, so I held two mil-dots high and the pellet went 2" high. I held 1 mil high on the next shot and hit the shell. That is pretty flat shooting for a co2 gun. Just tell me I'm not crazy, please. ::)

with the sights adjusted for 10 yards you should be close at that distance as the rifle will print high after 10 yards and then drop at 30

:D Thanks for the reply. About 30 years ago I did a lot of 22 rim fire shooting. As soon as I read your explanation, I remembered the same results with the 22  ::)

Exactly as Mike said.  If sighted in at 10 yards, pellet is still rising and will shoot high at 20 yards and come back down at around 30.  It will vary some if and shoot a little flatter if  you soup it up (tune it for higher velocity).

Hi Darrell,

I can't judge you to be crazy or sane. I worked in a mental instutition for over 10 years but it is hard to judge a person's sanity in such a short time.

However, I "CAN" declare you happy! (grin) And that is really all that matters in this world.

Regards,

DON

I had the same problem with my QB-78 from Archer air guns. I made the mistake of purchasing one with “the gold service” level. The result was a boring rifle that always hit the target at 28 yards (the maximum distance in my back yard. I could have been using a hole punch on the targets for all the lack of variation I was seeing in my groups
I was able to solve the problem by switching to smaller targets like 6mm plastic air soft BB’s.

;)  I was thinking that since I am relatively new to the air gun world, That I should buy one of the over priced German
Air guns. I spent many hours on the internet and began to see a pattern. The Germans were not the only ones getting
Good reviews from the air gunners of the world. I Bought as my first gun (pistol, always liked them, can't shoot them all that well) Webley alecto ultra, not german, not even British, made in Turkey. I love this gun. So after all this ranting. I love my Chinese ar2079A with its 4-16 by 50 Leapers scope.
