Title: Trail back together
Post by: SciGuy on September 09, 2010, 10:08:48 AM
Finished home tuning my Trail last night.  Everything has been deburred, a new JM seal, trigger honed, all old lube removed using denatured alcohol, JM moly applied, and reassembled.  Most of this has been covered by many other folks, but I would like to point out a few things.

1) the JM seal is a much much much much tighter fit than the stock seal (and the the stock seal only had around 200 rounds on it).  Getting the piston installed with that seal on it was a bit of work.

2) reinstalling the crosspin in the end cap was a major PITA (of course most of you likely already know this).

After reassembly, I put a few rounds downrange just to see it it still worked :o  It was already dark, so I din't bother mounting the scope.  Cocking the gun the first time was a chore.  It was real stiff and the seal squeaked the whole way.  First shot and there was to dieseling at all.  I always thought this gun was quiet, but now it only has a very dull thud.  Next couple cockings were about the same as the first.  On the fourth cocking, everything was nice and smooth.  Still takes a bit more effort than with the stock seal, but at this point I'm not sure the stock seal was really sealing much.

During the tune I paid particular attention to the trigger.  I still remember the Rekord trigger on my HW97K that I sold many years ago, and the great match triggers I had on my various 10M pistols.  This trigger will never be that good, but it is currently very nice.  Silky smooth with crisp 2nd stage and it should only get better from here.

I can't wait to get the scope mounted tonight and get a couple hundred rounds down range to start breaking everything in.  I just have tonight and tomorrow to get things ready for a field target shoot on Saturday.

Unsure if you are talking about it as being part of the tune, but if you didn't alrady, you most definitely should treat yourself to a Tuna trigger.
