Title: scope ring heighth
Post by: clip on December 18, 2011, 01:19:49 AM
I bought a 4-16x40 scope for my Maurader and I'd like to know what heighth scope rings is best to use....medium or high? I'm more concerned about clearing the magazine than the objective lens. Do you think a medium will work or should I just go with a high ring? I prefer the scope to be as low to the barrel as possible but that magazine poses a clearance problem.
   Thanks....Larry

you have to use high profile scope rings for the mrod due to the clip

That's not true Mustangmike. I have a 6-24X56 on one of my Mrods and I use medium rings. The only rifle I have high rings on is my FX.

Thanks, Mike...The store I was in last night only had the medium profile in stock and I wasn't sure if that would be enough to clear the rifle's clip. BecauseI always use low profile sized rings, those are all I keep on hand at home...I needed to be sure which size would work before I bought new ones. Looks like Clip's  clip did me in...lol. ( Groan....Sorry for the poor play on words...:>)...........)

Just saw this, Keith. The medium rings fit your Mrod without clearance problems on the clip?

That's correct. If you look in my signature you will see the scopes I use and the only one that uses high rings is the FX Royale.

Well I stand corrected, I've heard many times that mrod need high profile rings to clear the mag... handy info to know that medium rings can be used

Mag kind of rides side-saddle, most of its height is off to the right side out of the way of the scope.  Medium rings will work with that 40mm objective and still leave some space between the objective and the shroud.

I've had a couple Mrods with several different scope and medium rings always worked for me as far as clearing the mag.

Depends on the brand of scope rings. Least it did with mine. Leapers are a bit taller then BKL. Hawke's are a tad shorter. Now I am talking 30mm stuff.

For 1" I went with BKL high to give my fat fingers room to load the single shot tray. Even with high rings there is still not a whole lot of extra space.
