Title: HW97K Barrel Droop?
Post by: dwood5 on December 05, 2011, 11:47:11 PM
I thinking of purchasing an HW97K and associated scope stuff. Can anyone tell me if these rifles need a droop-compensating mount?

Thanks,

DON

I've never seen a Beeman or HW gun with barrel droop! :P

You will love all of your other air rifles slightly less if you do. ;D

I have HW 97, no barrel droop.  Like you, I also have a few Diana and HW models.  My 97 is heavier, feels very stable in off had position, and the trigger is really, really great.  Underlever, it takes a bit of effort to cock the spring, but the result is hitting the target you aim at every time ( unless you miscalculate wind or do something else silly). And I mean tiny targets, like one inch and less at 55 yards and more...

I have never even had it tuned as it is such an accurate rifle, And I'm scared to change that, by tinkering!  I can totally live with the tiny bit of spring noise it creates.  It shoots at just over 12 FPE with JSB 8.4gr pellets.

I compete with it in FT and since I have gotten it, the only thing I would change is to try to find some better glass. ( it currently wears a leapers 8-32 x 56)

DEFINITELY get this rifle....

Thanks to all for the info!

At this exact moment I'm waiting for my favorite place to order AG's to open.

I already have a Hawke Sidewinder Tactical 10X42 scope to put on it. Just need rings and plan to buy the BKL 301's.

It will be in .22 cal.

EDIT: Placed the order. Hopefully will have it before the weekend.

Great gun, you will enjoy it to the point of spoiling you against any other srpinger you might own. You are gonna want medium to high mounts, one piece work well with this gun.

Barrel droop? if the Weihrauch guys heard you say that, well... Barrel droop? bist du verrückt? Dies ist ein Weihrauch gun, nicht ein chinesisches Spielzeug!

That's something I've never seen yet,is a HW with droop. I can't wait to make my next springer purchase as I'm also going with the 97K as well.I had a HW85 Luxus,,but sold it as I never cared for it at all.Still wish I had bought the HW80 or 95 instead of the 85.

Thanks

I don't know about that barca/ditto <grin>. My HW100 [PCP] is about the ultimate for accuracy, power and quality and everything else desired in an air rifle. If the HW97 even comes close, I'll be very happy!

BTW, UPS tracking indicates it might be here as early as Thursday. Fingers crossed!

My HW100 and RWS48 both like the JSB Exact Jumbo Heavy Diabolo 18.1 gr.

Are these the same as your "JSB Jumbos"?

HW100 is in another league, no recoil!

HW97 is it's match in the springer league.

Check the stock screws and the trigger screws regularly for the first 100 or so rounds. After that, clean all the threads an apply a small amount of blue loctite. Be sure to use the scope stop pin holes in the receiver, there should be three of them for scope adjustment fore & aft. When you see how deep the holes are, you will know why your gun weighs so much, the tube and other parts are massive and for good reason.

Not 18 grain but the JSB Jumbo exacts 15.9 and express 14.3

My new HW97K was delivered today at noon. Mounted my scope, sighted it in [total 5 shots to sight in]. Then took 5 chrono readings with some 14.66 gr. H&N Field Target Trophy pellets: ave= 669 f/s. These readings are with the 6th through the 10th shots with the new gun.

I wanted to get some early readings so I can measure how the velocity changes over time as the gun is broken-in.

After another 50 shots or so initial accuracy looks good and the firing action is smooth with a single thump. No twang detected.

My .22 cal pellet selection is quite limited. I will be adding a variety soon.

I am curious, however, if the 669 f/s average with 14.66 gr. pellets is close to what others are getting??

ya that's a good # for these rifles most of them shoot 650 to 700 fps out of the box! and FTT's for some reason always shoot slower than most other 14.3gr pellets, try some CPHP's and see what your #'s are and congrats on your new gun! :P
