Title: BSA RD30 mounting system needs help
Post by: HOSPassassin on May 29, 2025, 12:34:38 PM
First of all, I should have admitted this was a quality control problem immediately and sent it back. It's my fault that I'm having to ask this question.

With that said, the RD30 dot sight that I got as a gift last Christmas will not secure to anything I want to put it on. I am using the side marked as 3/8" and it just will not get tight enough on either a Daisy 901 or a different long arm that is not to be discussed here. I can screw it down until it will not screw anymore and it still slides off.

I measured the space between the jaws of the dovetail at about 13/32". This is 1/32" larger than 3/8" so it's no wonder the jaws don't clamp down properly. Clearly, poorly-sized parts were attached to the body of the sight at the factory and QC did not catch it.

Are there any aftermarket parts out there that could replace these out-of-spec mounting parts? Would Numrich or someplace like them have them?

you can buy an adapter rail to convert the airgun/rimfire rail to a weaver/pictinny rail.

Try inverting the clamps, some systems have that as an option for the smaller rails.

Had 2 of those red dots in the Philippines about 15 or more years ago, which I had sent from the US.

I remember paying something a little over $20 for each.

One had an askew dot, so I gave it away instead of throwing it in the garbage.

Those are very cheap dots, and I’m quite surprised they still cost the same nowadays.

3/8" IS the small side. They can flip over to become 5/8".

Yep, I use UTG Universal them with my HW springers along with a couple styles of Weaver/Picatinny rings depending on the scope tube size.............
