I'm looking at purchasing an Air Venturi Avenge-X from Pyramyd. Normally I skip add on warranties and figure if something happens past the 1 yr. point I'll try and fix it myself. I'm thinking of having them perform the 24hr. leak test ($10), but now think if I skip that and instead apply it to a 2 yr. service contract it'll only cost me $35.
Anyone add on a Pyramyd SC? Is it worth it? ;)

Hi Gerard
I don't know anything about their service contracts.
Who pays the shipping out and back if you send it in for service ?
Best Wishes - Tom

Shipping is the killer!

I wouldn't go for the extended contract. The first test to make sure it holds air seems reasonable. Odds are the only thing that rifle will ever need service wise is O rings.

My guess is that it works out the same as pretty much any other service contract, being nothing more than a profit center for the company. If what you order doesn't work out of the box, you send it back for replacement/refund without any reference to the service contract at all. If it does, it is will probably work for the rest of its functional life, with only a small probability of problems within the lifetime of the service contract. As a result, the company has been paid for something the customer doesn't use at all, only occasionally having to provide the services offered by the service contract. And, as already mentioned, if you are one of the unlucky few and have to pay for shipping to and from the service center, you save money, maybe quite a lot, by having the item repaired locally. I never buy service contracts for anything.

I worked retails sales on a commission basis for an electronics/appliance outlet in another life. Those extended warranties were used as a bonus for the sales person.
As with anything else... read the fine print carefully.

Yeah, I realize most of the time they are somewhat of a rip-off. But, if you have bad consumer karma, like I generally do, then sometimes it's works out. Of course, soon as you buy one it invokes Murphy's Law! LOL
The contract is pretty straight forward. Shipping is covered, which is a big plus. A tin of heavy wt. pellets almost costs as much.
I'm still curious and hoping someone had bought one, had an experience they could share. And while I still plan on doing any repairs if possible, it does have a "Lemon" clause. I just wish these things were added on after the manufacturer's warranty expired!!
