Title: VERY Quiet Around Here...
Post by: H95Kidd on May 07, 2025, 09:21:26 AM
Last post on Feb 23 around here?? Nobody is shooting their Hatsans? Well, I guess I'm guilty of that as well, but at least I did hastily grab my Hatsan 95 yesterday, with the intention of taking a (warning) shot at one of my resident coyotes.. Quick "backstory" that everyone should get a laugh out of: we have had nothing but rain, rain, rain here (NE Ohio) for about a week now. As a result, had a few puddles form in the "lower 40" (aahhh, really only 3/4 acre) of my urban/city property, and the ducks (mostly Mallards, but I did see a Wood duck as well!) have been coming around and taking a swim off/on in these puddles. Cracks me up that these little puddles would be an attractant to them.. Anyway, on this particular occasion there is ONE lone male Mallard (usually show up in mated pairs), but acting a bit strange in that he's standing erect/motionless and looking intently towards a drainage creek that runs along the back of the property. Seemed like he did this for about five minutes, NO movement at all. You can't actually SEE the drainage creek though, due to it's very high banks. Next thing I see is a coyote running up out of the drainage and making a beeline for the duck! The Mallard bursts into flight and BARELY makes it before the coyote can get to him. If the coyote had taken a leap into the air I think he might have got him! So, the coyote kinda sniffs around for a bit where the duck was, so I figure I have time to grab the Hatsan and maybe give him a "sting" and something to think about before venturing back into my yard again. As an aside, they (the coyotes) have been in my yard on several occasions, and I have "hit" them a time or two. More like just stung them (aiming at the hindquarters) due to the distance. I understand this may be a bit unethical, but I am trying to discourage them from venturing too close to the house. Anyway, by the time I uncased the Hatsan and grabbed a few pellets, he had retreated back into the creek/drainage area. So no shot opportunity, but did get some entertainment value out of this whole episode :D .

There are new gates that allow you to access many manufacturers directly, Hatean being one of them.
This gate is pretty much defunct.....

Your right, it was definitely something to laugh about. Stupid coyote. I don't think your "Stinging" the yotes iś  unethical at all. I have chickens, and live at the base of a mountain, where we have
Yotes, bobcats, A few even larger type cats...Panthers or mountain lions, whatever you want to call them. Anyway, until last year, all I could do was sting the yotes myself with my old Ben Franklin, depending on the way I could shoot. Sometimes my 17hmr couldn't be used due to a few houses scattered around. The name of the game was teach the yotes to. Stay away from my chicken coop. So.....I dove headfirst into the deep end of PCP's. Now I can safely do a lot more than sting the chicken stealing beasts. Trash pandas are another story. They never learn.

Lots going on in the Hatsan Gate!

A few of us recently picked up some refurbished Flash-R's from Hatsan during their refurb sale.  I grabbed a .177 and aside from a bad o-ring in the fill port valve, it has been a pretty awesome cheap airgun!
