Were the Optics Section, Accessories Section, and Tuners Section disappear??
I can no longer find them.

Hey Yogi - it seems like there are a lot of reassignments of topics going on lately.
Very annoying to me that I get slammed with emails stating "Topic moved" upwards into the hundreds of these emails.
Perhaps it's a bit of cleaning house on the Forum topics.
But to lose the Optics/tuners section would be a great loss.

Lots of things are being reorganized at the forum owner's request. Once it's all done navigation will be much easier.
Please be patient.
I recommend turning notifications off until it's complete.
There have been several announcements about these changes.

Well I have my notifications turned off. And I can not find a darn thing!!! >:(
Why fix it if it is not broken?

Thats progress . Trouble is that it makes it a bit difficult for those of us who are set in our ways and set in our comfort zone . We just have to get used to it and get a bit mentally agile . Hard but probably a good exercise for us . So stuff it all ,i am going shooting.

Right! I try to use the search ENG, it doesn't work! go figure! ::)
-
Google works great. Just include "gateway to airguns" in the search bar.

The search engine never worked. THAT definitely needs some improvement. The search engine has always been one of my biggest peeves on this site. As someone else mentioned, I dispense with the internal search engine and go straight to Google, and always include GTA in that search.
Shuffling around the different categories ---- I really neve saw a need for that, but I guess the 'Youngers' see a need for it, and we 'Olders' have to "adapt". ----?????
I agree with Yogi in that why "fix" it if it's not broken.
These so-called improvements are not working for me. It's like rearranging my living room and my favorite chair and placing the TV on the wall behind me.

I feel similarly. I liked the organic way navigation evolved. To know where to find things was to know a history.
It's the not yet members this is being done for more than anyone perhaps. Changing the gates so that new members can more easily root here and grow is the mission, which maybe is also one of preservation. Thank you for your perseverance in these earth rumbling times.

Something else needs to be realized here..
New software is being reviewed to address long time issues with our current forum software such as the search function that we all see as a problem. Certain organizational changes have to be made so everything can be migrated into a new package without issue or the loss of what we have.
The owner and staff have and will continue to ask for patience as we try to improve the GTA and move it forward in today's world.

Personally, I don't see this as an improvement.
It's more of a bloated cluster flutz.

I think the forum for each brand of gun is way over the top, but I'm old and don't like change anyway.
-
I voted for one gate for each platform and lost.. But it's not my ballgame, I just get to swing the bat. ;D
Bottom line is that everyone will complain if their favorite gun don't have it's own gate... and that is impossible.

I do like the change to the PCP Gate. There are so many makes and models of PCPs and threads about them that it was almost impossible to wade through all the posts to find something related to what little I shoot in PCPs. Just don't mess with the German Gate and I'll be happy. This has been home base for me for many years.

Me too Joanie!
But occasionally, I like to check the Optics, Accessory Gate (no so often), and Tuner Gate. No longer... :( :-\ :'(

Problem is that now there is a BRAND designated gate for the DIANA airguns.
AND an ORIGIN gate for German Springers. Because PCP notes got moved to the PCP sections.
I now have to keep track of TWO gates, and that is a bit annoying.
Also, to narrow things to ONE brand per gate, precludes "cross-polination" of knowledge.
NOT ideal.
I will try to do my best to keep helping shooters, but sometimes, things may take a bit of time.
Keep well and shoot straight!

Changes take time, and we all appreciate the GTA staff's work immensely. At the moment it is a mess, with (for example) some of my own threads about German springers either here or at the new brand-specific gates, even when the threads deal with guns with their own, new brand-specific gates. I'm thinking maybe threads whose titles don't include the brand are easy to miss?
It has been already stated upthread that it will be impossible to create a gate for everyone's guns, but when there are no gates for classic, sport-defining Feinwerkbau, Anschütz, and Walther guns (to just use the German Gate as an example), things are not how they should be.
One of the hitches used to be that some of the European / Asian Gates stated explicitly that these Gates are for spring guns only, but others didn't, even when they all had the same principle working. You would have confused newcomers pretty regularly. But that would have taken only a little tweak in the Gate descriptions.
All in all, I think more gategories / gates is not exactly a boon for the sport, because of the lack of cross-pollination Hector described. If only the big brands get their separate places, and the smaller brands are put together here (or elsewhere), the cross-pollination is limited to the latter, which can't be good.

Yup!
Thanks!

I agree with much of what is said here. Having opportunities for cross-pollination, continuing work on identifying and moving threads, and addressing the trail of FWB, Anschutz, and Walther guns in the German gate... all of these are works in progress. Well stated, in my opinion, Duke!
