Living out in the "sticks" every now and then a stray dog shows up.
Last Monday Hoosier Momma saw a "Big Black Dog" in our yard... then, Tuesday the box of "milk bones" was out in the yard instead of in the garage. :o
Last night when I got home from work I let Zoey out to "potty" and this HUGE black dog came leaping towards us across my field. (literally a "Leap" like a deer).
Thinking it was charging, I fired a couple warning shots from a 12g into the air because I thought it was threatening us.
Well tonight I came home and He was laying in my yard ... literally <20 feet from the garage door, calm as could be.
He is tall and slender in a Great Dane sorta way but has a head like a Mastiff shape.
He is black but older, because of the white in his face like my 11 yo Zoey.
I already feel attached he chose us, Hope to see him again soon before I start feeding and choosing a name.

Scott, dogs that need love are usually good dogs. I didn’t want another but this guy was being beat and starved. He is the best dog and such a love. He worships my grand kids.
I get tears thinking of how it was for him…and filled with rage.
He lives like king now.

We’re bad about taking in strays too. Funny thing is they often turn out to be pretty good dogs. Our current and presently only dog is Belle a two year old Labrador Retriever. She comes from a champion blood line but some one left a gate open at the kennel and she has consanguinity issues. Her sire is also her grandsire. So we got her for free. We’re down to just one dog right now but nature abhors a vacuum and we will have another soon enough.
Good luck with this fellow Scott.

Strays and rescues just seem to be so much more grateful.
Betty Lou and I have decided that when Boss is gone we're done. Rambo's passing ripped our hearts out and Boss's ain't going to be any easier. With Killer's passing it almost feels like she is a little part of him we got to keep.
It's strange, she has taken on so many of Rambo's characteristics. Every now and then you can tell she's going around the house looking for him even several months since he passed. For nearly 10 years you never saw one without the other.

Hoosier Momma says the same about no more after Zoey, but I just can't ever imagine myself without a dog.

Me neither Scott. And the memsahib feels the same way. We lost our two older dogs and our cat within a couple of months recently. We both agree we couldn’t make it through this time without Belle. The memsahib says we will be getting another dog soon. I’m expecting a new cat to show up any day now too. ;D

I always say it, but every time somebody in my family who knows better ends up getting me another Pitty before I think I'm ready and I just can't say no.

Same here. One cat passed two months ago so we are down to 2 cats and 3 dogs. Too many but I am such a sucker for them.
-
We're down to just 5 dogs which is the least we've had in over 20 years. We only have one dog left from the 9 we had when we moved to Arizona.

If I ever get another pet it will be a flippin goldfish. :o

I had a pair when I was 5, blackie & goldie.
As usual they lived for less than a year, and I cried.
If an adult can grow to love a fish, they'd be an awful pet with how short they tend to live.
If I was mostly done with pets I'd probably get a hermit crab or something, they're about the same class of pet as a fish but live longer and you can change their shells for various holidays or sports seasons.

na, short life span is part of the plan. If I have to go out of town I can just flush it and get another one when I get back... ::)
-
Bill you'll still wind up shedding a tear when you flush it down the terlet.
-
He is back... In the sun I can see he is brindle, not black.
Getting more used to me but still skittish.
Calling him "Duke"
Zoey was OK with him
He has a collar, so I think he is one of the neighbors... but his ear says he is a scrapper.
-
Oh my goodness, he is beautiful! Needs to be fed too.
-
He got fed yesterday. ;)
