Title: Beeman SAG AR2078B Trigger Type and Etc.
Post by: Zsigmund on April 09, 2025, 09:46:22 AM
I recently acquired this "new" Beeman SAG AR2078B:

The test target has a 2018 date on it.

The rifle looks to have the same trigger as my QB78. I thought the 2078B had a "two stage" trigger with a deeper folded metal trigger blade.
Wondering if this is something that has changed or if it's evidence of nefarious action?

It has the newer style all plastic rear aperture sight (yuck), and did not include the regular open rear sight that they used to come with.

I'm interested in other members experiences regarding these rifles and any revisions and included accessories. This one shoots great btw, leaks, but shoots great!

 Cheers,
        G

Both of mine came to me new with only the aperture "peep" sight, no open sight... however, I am sure they are both metal.
I can confirm when I get home.
Never having a QB-78 I can't comment on the trigger.

They're good rifles.  Congrats!  That said...

They really benefit from a good going-through.  That means giving the barrel a good cleaning and checking the leade for burrs in the transfer port.  The transfer port seal will likely be restricted and you'll need to change it out if you want it to shoot harder.  (You can also dial them back a little to get more shots with an o-ring that cushions the hammer-strike some.)  A short piece of the 1/4" water hose used for fridges works well.  Polishing or waxing the bore will help with accuracy.  Expect 1/2" or better groups from the bench at ten yards after that.  The trigger is easy to adjust.  (I prefer a glass-rod type of break at about three pounds.)  Yours does have a QB78 trigger.

It doesn't hurt to re-crown the barrel and clean up all the sharp edges.  Mine would constantly cut my thumb when I first got it.

There's a good blog that covers them here.  -  http://anotherairgunblog.blogspot.com/

Cheers,

J~

 Jeff,

Thanks for all the great info and the link! I really appreciate it. I do plan on tearing the rifle down completely, it needs a re-seal for sure.

The real issue now is that I can't stop shooting it. :D Maybe I got a good one, it's shooting 1/2" and under for me at ten yards with my crummy eyesight and a looong bland trigger pull.
I was saying in another thread that someone skilled might be able to stack the shots in the first pellet hole.

 Thanks again,
                  G

Wow! Those are beauties. They have the different triggers also. There must have been a change at some point...
Thanks for checking and posting those.  :D

Well, I did the unthinkable and ordered a replacement since I purchased the rifle at Amazon.

The new one holds co2 overnight. It came with the exact same appointments and accessories as the first one.
The factory test target is slightly better, which means nothing probably.

The new one shoots just like the first did for me. I made sure to try them side-by-side before returning the original.
Giving the bbl a good cleaning out now and want to shoot it for a while before tearing down.  ;)

Mine has the metal rear sight as well...  I find the gun very heavy.

 Here's the replacement AR2078B:

Looks about the same, has a matte finish stock this time though. I stuck a Daisy Avanti peep I had kicking around on it.

Cleaned the barrel, adjusted the trigger and added a littly moly grease, no polishing.

Those are 5 shot groups at ten yards from a rest, a couple of good ones (for me) in there. H&N Excite Plinking seem to work well for it.

Looking forward to slicking it up and doing a little tuning. Going to just enjoy shooting it for a while first though, it's pretty fun!  :D

 Cheers,

It looks like you got one with a good barrel.  Try different pellets with it.  A buddy's .177 shoots the Crosman Destroyers really well.  Mine?  Not so much.

Cheers,

J~

Just took delivery of one myself from Amazon . Nice looking matte finish rifle and I got no complaints about the workmanship . Mine was dated 05/24 and had a decent but not outstanding test group . Cheaper quality plastic diopter sight , not like the vintage Industry Brand that had the higher quality steel sights . Really nice trigger . Haven't fired it yet but took a good while just to clean the nasty barrel . Will post up after I shoot a few times .

My barrel was pretty dirty too. Does your trigger have a plastic or metal housing/trigger guard?

Looks to be metal - aluminum . What pellets are you having success with ?

Here's a pic of my vintage Industry Brand AR2078 that I recently resealed . Shoots well although I don't care for the u-notch rear sight with post . I didn't get the diopter sight with it . This one does have the folded metal trigger that you were talking about . I have a bugbuster so I may scope it .

Meisterkugeln 8.2s, RWS Superdome 8.3s, I shot a bunch of Crosman Premieres through it too.
I am not any type of pro shooter, but this rifle seems to do really well with whatever I grab.

My rifle has a plastic trigger housing, internally it's identical to any QB78 trigger.
I was skeptical of the plastic at first, but it's really working fine.

 Very cool.

I've got a deluxe QB78 to go with the AR2078B. I've been fighting the urge to grab another AR207X flavor , maybe a .22.

Any insights on the best HPA bottle to get ?  I'd probably want to bump the outlet psi up from 850 to 950 or 1100 . So the regulator would need to be adjustable . Also want to make sure the bottle diameter stays at 2" for clearance .

Hmmmm.
Been a long time since I researched this. There was a seller going out of business with links here on the forum.
Slim bottles that were perfect.
I will try and find it for you.
