Title: NEW Dan Wesson Air Pistol !
Post by: airgun-shooter on November 30, 2011, 03:11:34 PM
I was just checking my e-mail today, and what did I find !

A NEW CO2 Air Pistol by or from Dan Wesson !

https://www.pyramydair.com/product/dan-wesson-4-co2-bb-revolver-black?m=2651;utm_source=ExactTarget&utm_campaign=New+Dan+Wesson+revolvers (https://www.pyramydair.com/product/dan-wesson-4-co2-bb-revolver-black?m=2651;utm_source=ExactTarget&utm_campaign=New+Dan+Wesson+revolvers)

It can be loaded by the use of speed loaders, making it a fine airgun to practice your double action shooting skills.

The only draw back for me is that it has a SMOOTH BORE BARREL !  WHY !!!!

They almost had me, but my double action shooting up too 20 yards is just fine, and really doesn't need improvement. But without rifling ???

What do you guys think ?????

The gun is smooth-bore because it only shoots bb,s. rifling is for lead pellets. Also the 4 inch barrel will shoot alot lower fps then the 8 inch barrel. Cool looking gun,s. You can problemly get some decent grouping at 10 yd,s but 20 yd,s is a long way for bb-pistol accuraccy. The 4 an 2.5 barrel are new the dan wessen with 6 an 8 have been out for awhile.

Hey Gents ...

I got a phone call from FedEx this morning telling me to be home tomorrow to sign for what I am sure is my new Dan Wesson CO2 8" Revolver - Black!  I had been reading about it for the last couple weeks.  Then, I took a look at Pyramyd Air, realized that Black Friday was hurrying along, and took all the pennies out of my piggy bank.  Right at this moment I am not sure how I will go to sleep ... I am really excited about this.

What I wanted to say though, in response to the idea that it is overpriced, please check out AirGun Depot's web site and see if they are still offering it for about $88.  I bought the 8" in black, a bottle 'o BBs from Crosman and the shipping for exactly $100.70.  If you decide to contact them, send an email to "inquiries@airgundepot.com" and put it to the attention of JOSH.  You won't find anyone nicer to do business with long distance.  He even sent me a follow up email the next day to thank me for my purchase.

AND, somebody please respond to this post as I really want to be in touch with someone else who has one so I can compare notes as we go along.  A pistol this big is new territory for me and in my dreams I can even see a scope on it. But, in my dreams I also see myself winning the Lotto.

Maybe we should just keep this thread going as it looks like the DW's are going to be mighty popular.

John

Hi guys, I'm just getting back into this after a few years off.(3) Sold a few of my guns to allow myself a new toy. A lot has changed but one of the first new things that excited me is the 8" Dan Wesson.(just ordered) Of course a lot of other stuff does but it's all out of my price range right now. I'll report my opinion and compare it to my other similarly priced pistols when I get it.

Greetings ...

Buckaroos, I think you may be in for a surprise.  I have had mine now for about two weeks.  If it were not the week before Christmas, I would have had a chance to fire off more than the measley 25 or so shots that I did.  I am really surprised.  I have a red dot sight to go on it, but the other day I shot it bare naked, just like it came out of the box.  Propped up on a sand bag, at about 25 to 30 feet, and after 10 shots to get the feel of it, I got a group of 10 or so around 1 1/4" ... not counting the two or three that just went oops.  I am very pleased with that.  I am sure that some day when I am not in a rush, when everything is set up nice, when I have some more experience with it and get that sight on it, it will do more than I ever expected it to do.  So, that's my very early impressions.

I have a couple other thoughts ...

Keep it in a case or at least wrapped up.  Then watch the expression on your friends face when you unwrap it and hand it to him.  You will see eyeballs pop.  One of my friends handed it back to me instantly and shouted, "@$%^! It's loaded!"  :{)

I think, my personal feeling, that if a person can buy this for $100, with speedloader and a dozen shells, it is money well spent. At $120, it would be a bargain if the barrel were rifled.  And, if the barrel were rifled, then there could very easily be shells made just to take a pellet and it would go over $150. Please note that I am not saying that the barrel needs to be rifled, as I also think that it will just just fine with a smooth bore and BBs.  But, I know very well that someday I will wish that I could fire .22 pellets.  *(&^, some day I will wish it would fire .357 pellets!  I can feel that one coming already.

So, who is this critter made for?  I think that it is not a youngsters first weapon.  It's too much.  It is made for a person with some experience even if his/her only experience is basic training or boot camp.  It feels great in the hand.  It looks great just laying out on the table.  It seem to put the BB where you tell it to go, at least at the distances I tried.  I also believe that I have found a holster for it ... Uncle Mike's 17 I think it was ... that should come today and I will report back on how it fits.  If the finish stays on the gun and not in the holster, I think we have a winner here all the way around.

Now, let's see if we can get them to make one in shiny chrome, like the 6".  Then I will have a black one for sale.

Actually, I just realized that I misspoke.  I am going to put my money on this pistol being some kind of cast aluminum alloy.  So, a shiny one would really be just a black one with no black and a bunch of buffing.  So, maybe it is not crazy to think about one.

Here's my 8" I bought when it first hit PA for 89.00 with a coupon I had and then added the red dot.

I like the feel of it and the look but as far as the accuracy I like my Tanfoglio all steel Witness 1911 Pistol better.
The Wesson is still a good plinker for cans and such for target practice.

And the 2.5"

But both are less Velocity then the 8"

I'm not sure how they can make a smoothbore this accurate?
We had a 65 degree day so I ran a few rounds through her and was shocked out to about 15 yards. Good enough that I might invest in a good red dot that's not too overwhelming..
