Title: Remington Vantage .177 ?
Post by: Tactical Tom on November 30, 2011, 02:53:42 PM
My Sister-N-Law got my brother the Remington Vantage Air Rifle during Mondays Cyber Sales from Pyramid Air. It was reg. $179 & she got it for $99 & free shipping ! it's .177 & comes with a 4X scope. He doesn't know about it...it's  gonna be a Christmas gift. What can he expect from this AirRifle ? The descreption said 1200fps with alloy pellets(We never shoot these thru our Air rifles) Anybody know which pellets these guns like ? What kind of quality is the scope ? Is this a good Air Rifle ? What kind of Trigger does it have ? This will be his first AirRifle, I let him borrow my Hammerli Storm & he got the fever for an AirRifle. Any inf on the Vantage would be great !
Thanks

The Vantage is a surprisingly good air rifle, I was surprised by it's handling and accuracy. The trigger is typical Crosman, lots of travel, but releases nicely. I can generally shoot out the center of a Gamo target from 50 feet in about 20 pellets. Off the top of my head, I can't remember what pellets it likes, something in the 8g range and I think JSB. Recoil is not bad and it's easy to cock.

In my opinion, an excellent starter rifle.

The included scope is very low quality, you'll definitely want to upgrade it.

Have you put it thru a Chrono to see what kind of FPS it's hitting ?

The Remington Vantage 1200 was my starter rifle too. I love this gun, accuracy is pretty good. I upgraded the scope to a 4-16x40 to get the most out of my gun. Pretty good deal on the rifle, I payed $120 for mine. I could do 3 inch groups at 30 yards. The key to accuracy with this rifle is to learn the artillery hold. I shot soda cans out to 60 yards. The pellets that worked best in my rifle are the Crosman Premier Hallow Point 7.9 gr from Walmart. The overall quality is impressive. Here's a link to a very nice review of the gun.

This is a Rem Vantage I cut the barrel to 13"/ tuna trigger/ Camo/brake.
This was also my first tune. It all turned out great and is fun to shoot.
Mine likes the CPHP's also but will shoot others good except to a different POI. I think you will enjoy the Vantage. Mine did have a bad seal but I got it used at a pawn shop and after the tune it did great. Clean the barrel first.

What can he expect from this AirRifle ?
He can expect a simple rifle, with decent accuracy and decent power.

Anybody know which pellets these guns like ?
Almost all airguns are different, even the same model, made the same day. The only way to know what they like is too try many pellets. But Crosman Premier hollowpoints are a good place to start.

What kind of quality is the scope ?
IMO, it should be upgraded, but it will do it's job.

Is this a good Air Rifle ?
For the money, the Vantage is very good. It will be good for small game hunting, and target shooting.

What kind of Trigger does it have ?
A terrible trigger. The GRT3 sould be put in the gun.
