Title: Update on the Aspen project. It's not looking good. [2025-03-14]
Post by: GTA-Airgunner on March 14, 2025, 09:55:46 AM
Good morning, fellow Airgunners!

So I had a minute between wind gusts and, while walking my dog Butch, to head down to the range and look for the Aspen .25 that I knew I had.  I found two in the conexes.  One was in obvious need of repair as the pump was not working correctly.  The other was new in the box but had been sitting for about 3 years.   The short answer is that it's DOA.  The stock is cracked, and it's blowing air out from behind the gauge.  The pump seems to be in good working order however.  I can't deal with this now, but I will plan to try and make one working unit out of the two once I get back from my trip to South Carolina.   I'll probably livestream the process on AirgunArmy, as I'm sure it will make for some comedic fun, as these don't look "easy" to work on.  I wonder how many spare parts I'll have leftover or if I'll be able even to get one going.  I guess we'll find out.

On another note, it looks like Aspen is a dead product with PyramydAir and AirgunDepot.  I don't see any on their site anymore.  I have reached out to them about repairing the NIB unit and will let you know the results of those questions.  I reached out to my marketing contacts, who should be able to get me in touch with the correct person in service.  We'll see.  Seeing as they are no longer sponsors of the GTA or AirgunWeb, it will be interesting to see how things play out.

It looks like I may have 1 1/2 days before I leave to get in some time at the range.  I think I'm going to pull out my Seneca Eagle Claw again.  It's been over a year since I've looked at them. I have one in .22 and one in .25, and it's about time to have some fun with them on the range shooting steel out to 100 yards.   If all goes well, I'll be shooting one or the other for an April video.

Remember to SAVE THE DATE for Airgun Expo 2025 - https://www.theairgunexpo.com/ and get in touch if you plan to come out for the event.  Regardless if we have a sponsored "expo," I plan to have an open house and a lot of airgun shooting fun that weekend.

I hope you all have a great wrap-up to your week and a wonderful weekend.  Remember that I'll be out of town starting Wednesday of next week, so my post will be less regular until I get back to the ranch.

Cheers all.. and thank you for being a part of the GTA!

Rick

Pyramyd no longer sponsors AirgunWeb?  In my mind, the the two have been partnered since the beginning.  Wild.

Hey there..

Yep.. they have gone the route of most companies where the only measure is the immediate ROI and not the long-term value of investing in evergreen content.   At least, that's my take on it.  Additionally, the "influencer" culture, where people will create content for "free" just to leverage their return from the platform, has made it difficult for companies to justify paying for content creation.  It's a short-term solution, given the nature of traditional social media and their disdain for gun content.   All those videos done for "free" and hosted on YouTube could simply vanish overnight.  It's happened before, it will happen again.  So, I'm putting my attention back to projects like the GTA and AirunArmy.com.  Our content can't be deleted or vanished.

Fortunately, there are other companies that understand the value of what I bring to the table and are willing to support my work.  They certainly help keep the lights on, which I really appreciate.

Cheers
Rick

Apparently they got a better deal joining up with Amazon and selling PB stuff. I think they even dropped "Air" from their name.

I like and consume a lot of PB ammo... but that is not why I would turn to PA.
Shame :P

(unless they can sell me 300 Savage)
