Hello all,
I know I was going to share my preliminary list of .22 test pellets for our GRiP reviews, but since it's going to be impossible to shoot over the next several days, I thought I would ask you all what you do when it's too windy to shoot.
Today, sustained winds are 15+ MPH, with gusts reaching close to 35 MPH. It's that time of year here in West Texas. This morning, when I took my dog for a walk, the wind chill was 13. So, for the next few days, I'll be working on video editing and other admin work. I'm also thinking about trying to repair my Avenge-X and working on other maintenance since I won't be able to shoot accurately.
So here's the question. What do you all do when it's too windy or cold to shoot?
Maybe you all will give me some ideas!
Cheers.. and Thank You for being part of the GTA.

I'm not going to shoot in gale-force winds or in freezing temperatures. I'm retired, I simply wait for better conditions.

I usually head out to the shop with a plan and it ain't long before that secret squirrel takes over and I find myself elbow deep in something completely different than that plan.
-
If its is too windy to shoot .177 cal. I switch to .22 cal.
If it is too windy to shoot .22 cal. I switch to .25 cal.
If it s too windy to shoot .25 cal..... I shorten up the range, increase the pellet weight and shoot it anyway.
Best Wishes - Tom,

I have been known to seek the deep woods. :)

Good day to mount scopes, measure and adjust triggers, re-finish stocks, assemble new gun racks, do trigger mods, dust off and oil guns, chase Miss Baby around the house.

My shooting has been non existent the last couple years now. But as an airgunner there is always something to do. The wind rarely dies down around here so I shoot irregardless.
-
It’s too "dang" cold to worry about the wind!

My family room enters into the laundry room with a cinder-block wall .
I have a measured 10m range indoors.
-
About 50 ft in the basement.
-
If I go too long between trigger pulls, I set up a range in my garage when the weather is foul or in my shed open down the range when the weather permits and don’t worry what the targets look like and just take internal feedback.
Yes, sometimes I even close my eyes and just breathe and hold and after a while open my eyes again and other exercises.

I have that shooting window in my shop that leads out to my north range and targets set to 40+ yds. If it's cold I can fire up the wood stove. If it's hot I can turn on the a/c. The rain is almost a non issue because I'm inside and my stationary targets are painted steel and the rain don't affect them. I'm pretty much surrounded by woods that block much of the wind but that's not always the case. If winds get up to 10 - 15+ mph it gets through the woods and affects shooting.
Other than that I can get 7 - 10 yds inside the shop with the inside roll up open leaving the atv garage roll up closed. But that's only if it's not too cold or too hot. The 7' x 7' roll up lets all the heat or a/c out.
Here in the sandy south we don't have basements.
Now, once Nick get back from his job on the road he will finish up closing in the last end wall of the barn. That will give us 20 yds indoors with lights, water and power for compressors. We already plan to put a range in there to shoot and teach his 2 young kids all about shooting and safety. I have a spare Vevor compressor that will live down there for filling guns.

I have a bench full of airguns to repair and a indoor chrony. David

It was a lot of fun reading this.. Thank you for adding to the conversation. I had a boat bay in Lake Havasu that allowed me to get about 12 yards. I shot a ton in that space. I shot a lot of videos in there too!
Cheers

Rick, it seems like it's windy in every video you make in Fort Hancock. My guess is that if you didn't shoot when it's windy, then you wouldn't shoot at all.
Maybe I need to learn how to shoot in the wind. ( shoot the breeze?)
Hang in there, or take up Japanese fighting kites.

What can you do if you catch her? I can't even chase anymore. With my luck I'd catch her ::) And Avotar would shame me.

Wait till later in the day, it usually dies down, shoot the 2300s in the basement, work on other guns, or as a last resort sort pellets.

When it is NOT 11 °F with 32 mph winds I like shooting at 15 and 20 yards and some at 27 yards. When the wind is enough to blow shots at 15 yards I shoot at the closer 10 yard pellbox. Or I just wait and wait and wait for warmer less windy days like I have been waiting for a couple months. Baahumbug or whatever Mr Scrooge said.

Rick, I used to have a 13 yd range in the basement here. It was a great place to tune and shoot goofy little targets like the Red Ryder ones from Walmart. I had a lot of good memories during that time. I haven't gotten into sorting ammo yet but it makes perfect sense to me.
