Title: Not a Democracy
Post by: Methuselah on January 31, 2025, 07:57:55 PM
I get it, GTA isn't a democracy. Really I do. Promise. If you don't believe me just ask me.

However, I "vote" (petition, beseech, urge, nudge, suggest) a change in the rules regarding the classifieds.

Said change, make participation requirement a RATIO, instead of a count. No posts like "+1", emoticons, and "snippets" counting in said ratio.

Wanna know why PM me.

Anti Troll, Anti Scam Policy.
If you legitimize ( Sorta ) who you are the less likely said Newby will be a Screwby taking advantage of other established members.

Fully support this policy too !!!

Tho many feel similar or have site gripes in general ... looking at active posters and general activity in recent years ... Nuff said  :o

I wish the forum software had a way to sort out these non-post posts. But I don't see any way to. Would be WAY too much to handle manually.
May not be considered a democracy but I have always said the members make this forum. All suggestions welcome and appreciated!!!

If you are looking at a classified ad from a member, you can then click the member name and look at their posts.  If you are questioning the members involvement in GTA or credibility, this is a way to do a bit of research in the present system.  For instance, someone with not a lot of posts makes an ad, you click their member name and 'show posts', then see that most of their posts have no substance, and finally make a decision regarding the ad.

Exactly what I was going to say.
Do your research on the seller first and trust your gut from there.

This addresses the mechanism I'd think would be a start of a good algorithm for embedding a working programming snippet to alert a moderator that a post on the classifieds wasn't justified by "the new rules".

The HOW part, not so much the specific "why" which I'm reluctant to post.

Suffice it to say I presume there are those here that are ONLY here to post in our classifieds. I'm relatively certain were that privilege "curtailed" you would stop seeing (their) participation in other area of our forums.

My angst goes beyond the current discussion, as I said, wanna know the "driving force" for my "request" feel free to PM me. One member has, and suggested I reach out for the sake of clarity, however, I (now) believe my "request" is understood and my personal reasonings irrelevant  to a request for a "vote".

WHAT is (potentially) subject to change I've presented my case for, how people feel about that is THEIR personal private business and will command my respect.
