Bears don't toss limbs at you though. Usually bears roar around too. I don't know size of dude's tree but he said no bear could break those big limbs like that. I can't know if that's true or not. He needed a thermal scope instead of recording with a phone then we'd know for sure.

If you were in that much awe and fear of such a creature, would you be trying to get underneath it to see what it is? AND... if you're underneath it, it's not throwing branches AT you the branches are dropping to the ground.
Typical lousy video with light dancing all over the place and absent from the point of focus just enough to not be able to identify anything. "dang"... I fell for the click bait again.

Really folks, I’ve seen this more than once. It’s a young black bear. They do this.

Yup; the "teenager" bears (1st year on their own) do it.  I nver saw anything like it until we moved to Middle-of-Nowheresville; now we've seen it a few times.

I think the teenager bears are full of angst.  We started calling 'em Goth Bears.

Young bears rip big limbs off and throw sticks at people? Maybe tree in vid is small but dude said was big limbs that would take 2 minutes to saw through. Even if limbs were actually smaller than dude said bears don't toss sticks at people that I know of.

Been there.  You should see a Live Oak tree after a juvenile bear has "played" in it for a couple of nights.  Bears are a lot stronger than humans and yes they can rip limbs as thick as your arm off a tree.  As to throwing limbs I think that is just hyperbole.  When they do this leaves branches and acorns just rain down!

As a park ranger for over twenty five years I have seen wildlife do some pretty "Wild" stuff.  This is actually pretty normal behavior.  It just isn't common knowledge.

It reminds me of reading about Whitetail perusing mist nets for song birds and snacking on any birds they find caught.  Well documented, not well known.

There's a couple black walnut trees and a number of paw-paw on our property with clear evidence of "something" removing limbs.  Too high for the deer; not too high for a black bear rearing up on hind legs only.

Very old whitetail does will eat all manner of trash as their teeth fail.  They are desperate for any kind of nutrition.  When I see a doe eating grasshoppers I know she won’t survive the winter.

Sam I trust your knowledge and believe you're right. A young bear would also explain why it wasn't caught on camera vs a large critter. Glad to not have them in my area. Wild boar are more than problematic enough for me.

It isn't just the old ones.  There's plenty of studies and even YT footage documenting this behavior- and the deer in question are in good health and not old/sickly.

All the more reason we need to add pesting for white-tail to the list of squirrels and trash-pandas predating on our songbirds!   ;D ;D 8)

Question: What kind of deer would mistakenly eat a red bird instead of a juicy red apple?
Answer: no ideer.  8)
