I've almost read through all of the pages of Daisy gate - I definitely did not see this rabbit hole coming, haha.
I know the older guns had a metal pump handle for some years. I've spotted one on ebay, and I'm debating whether it would be worth it to buy it and swap out on my gun. Its overpriced to me, but he might take less, maybe. I just don't know if its really worth the change. My gun has the plastic receiver and pump handle (1998 model), I'm not planning any true "power" mods, not pumping past 10 and I am not really seeing any bowing of the plastic handle that worries me, so am I just over thinking this?

Mr. Casey,
THAT ONE WILL NOT WORK IN YOUR RIFLE.....
-
I had to get that urgent message out quickly.........
Now for the explanation:
There were 3 or 4 variants of the metal pimp arm; only the last one will work in your 880.
The first 3 all had sheet metal arms, and a cast handle.
The very first had an outward flare at the handle end...that clipped into a
C-clip in the frame for retention.
V.2 was sheet metal w/cast handle that had a spring loaded latch out the rear (the one on ebay) that latched under the front of the METAL trigger guard that was cast as part or the right receiver half.
There was another variation in there somewhere that added steel bushings to the link pin holes to cure a wallowing out problem.
These variations also needed the plastic knuckle and some pivot pin side spacers.... a PIA to assemble...
The last arm was cast......... That one has the small hook-like part at the rear of the handle. It hooked over the spring across the receivers just ahead of the plastic trigger guard. That one is shaped like your plastic handle and will replace it.
Your original is what is called the "flexy" handle.
It was used on the US made plastic receiver 880's.
Beginning in 2013, the oriental 880's gave some small ribs in the slots that run down each side of the arm.
They ARE considerably stiffer......
Plastic pump arms are available from Daisy, but they MAT still have some "flexy" arms in stock...no guarantees there.
But, they don't cost much, like $3.50 or somewhere thereabouts.
As you gotta call them anyway...............
The metal pump arms DO make a difference, but....mostly if you are striving for the highest level of power by using lots of pump strokes........ 10 - 12 should be fine w/plastic, but the newer arm is superior....

Good thing I was busy at work this afternoon and didn't have the time to get antsy and buy it, haha! Thanks for the insight - I was thinking that little spring piston probably wouldn't work on my gun, but I wasn't at home to really look it over.

Better to find an all metal Daisy 880, might need a reseal if price is decent, but parts are available yet.

I know you said "all metal"
Good advice.
Gotta watch , tho.......
Not all metal receiver 880'd had metal pump arms, but NO plastic receiver guns had metal arms.........
In the early 90's Daisy made some hybrid 880's......metal receivers, plastic pump arms, new style innards....weird...
Sounds like some sort of riddle..........
