Title: Santa delivered a nice Crosman 157 with an interesting box of powerlets!
Post by: 78gCollector on December 27, 2024, 05:05:20 PM
On Christmas Eve, Santa (or more likely USPS) dropped off a Crosman 157 that turned out to be much nicer than it looked in the few pics I saw of it online.  Generally things go the other way, but it's nice to get a win once in a while!  It's an earlier 157 in red/black box with instructions and pellet warning paper.

Also included were a mostly filled round tin of pellets and a mostly full box of Crosman Extra Capacity Powerlets.  There were four full carts in the box, and en expended one was in the pistol.  Writing on the powerlets looks similar to those found in the red and black boxes of six.  I've seen some packaging with the yellow and red color combination, but this is the first box of powerlets like this in my collection.  The rear of the box has directions specific to Crosman 150/157s.

The price tags on the pistol and powerlet boxes are labeled Strauss Stores Monticello.  The pistol was priced at $14.95 and the powerlets at $0.98.  Adjusted for inflation, the pistol would run about $175 in today's money!

Somewhere between original retail and cost with inflation!  Cost was $95 at auction, with an additional $25 or so due to various fees and shipping.  I'd have been happy paying more, but was glad there wasn't a whole lot of interest in it!

Shipping fees for online auctions can be crazy for a single item, so I generally buy multiple lots to spread out the cost.  (One company wanted to charge me $55 so ship a boxed Daisy 100!)  Along with this 157 I picked up some Japanese replica pistols from the 1970s/early 80s.  These pistols are really cool, and many of them operate and disassemble just like the real thing.  Here's a pic of a couple of the ones I picked up:

Nice score. It looks to be in great shape. Are you going to order a seal kit? Open that 157 up and check it out. Keep us updated on how it shoots.
