Well I had to get one, and see what this Wisconsin based airgun manufacture has to offer. So far the quickest response, and fastest shipping, right up there with that Netherland place ;) 2 days from placing my order it is here :o

So do we have to wait till Christmas to see what’s in the boxes?!!!!

Oh heck no no no ;) I will take them out to play tomorrow.

And a GX 4 compressor the better to fill the Huben GK1 with too :)
-
You went for the free compressor deal?

Well the fun never really started ::) Well all looked good until it didn't. I opened the box to find 1200 psi in the bottle, I topped it off to 3000 last night and found it at 1200 again this morning.
I figured that will be fine and I would top it off when I got to the range 45 minutes away. Found it empty, and when I removed the tank from the gun the valve assembly pretty much fell out.

That not worthy! Sending it back or doing the repair yourself if it’s possible?

Contacted them to repair the bottle valve setup, I figure it could save them future issues if they find a cure for the cause.

How does the machining on the internal components look? That Serpent Arms spun off from a US machinist is appealing to me and would lead me to expect pristine finishes on all components. Hard to tell that level of detail in photos, but some of those components look less than perfect?
These appear, externally anyway, to be a functionally identical copy of the Evanix REX series. Does anyone know if this is correct?
I have come across a couple of claims of excessively heavy trigger pull, and from the couple of videos I can find they seem to make a rather harsh "clang" on firing. I'm curious to see if Serpent Arms will become the next Airforce, or fade into airgun history. I see a lot of potential here if they make these well and listen to early users input.
Thank you James.

Machining is as good as Airforce I tend to want to compare to. Cocking is stout, and the one pull I did on the trigger reminded me of my crossbow triggers. Not a backyard plinking gun ;)
-
I re watched the Airgun Channels review, the trigger pull is just under 3 1/2 pounds. I will be sending the bottle in on Monday for repair at their cost. Good customer service I got a reply late Saturday afternoon.

AirForce had a few bumps coming out of the gate, remember the 'Gunpower Stealth'. To their credit, they listened to their customers and improved quality and now look at them. Lets hope Serpent can do the same.

New products inevitably have glitches.
The proof in the pudding is whether or not they fix the design going forward, as well as provide upgrades for the initial buyers free of charge.

Rumor has it someone made and an assembly error 😕
-
I hope you get it back and shooting soon. I'm not much of a shotgun guy at all but I'm very curious about the air shotgun. Are you going to try it on clays?
-
I'm hanging on in breathless anticipation of your next installment. :D

Is it doing a round trip from Wisconsin-Alabama-Wisconsin on the RHRR? (Rabbit-Hole-Rail-Road)

Must be. The big 3 definitely didn't make any arrangements to handle the extra holiday volume.

I received shipping notification from Kevin, that a new air tank and valve are on their way back to me, I should be back in action by the weekend 8) ;D
-
My tank and valve are back in action, will get some action video soon... I just noticed my naked fill nipple, so I have something ordered to cover it lol

Serpent says they plan to be at the Indiana show next April. Good chance for those close enough to check them out. I’m curious as to noise level and if anything can be done about it.
-
Well the Serpent strikes out again. I had a 4000 psi fill, it held overnight, it held for the first shot, the second shot was good and the pattern and power were respectable at 20 yards. But I heard air hissing out of the valve, so I tossed the ticking bomb in the back of the truck and grabbed my trusty old Recluse for the rest of the hunting hours I had left.
I wonder if I can only use it in warmer weather ??? it was around 12f when I was out ??? Never nice weather when I have time to hunt LOL
-
I talked to Keven at Serpent Arms today, I got the go ahead to do what I would of instinctively done seating in a new valve in any other airgun valve.
I was tempted to immediately dry fire another shot to get the valve to seat under pressure, I wanted to confirm that I could do that with their valves, before doing so, tomorrow I will air it up and give that a go. So far he has had only 6 valve issues over the years and a good number of Serpents out there now, and only 2 that are like mine me being one. I did win a lottery that day too ??? LOL ^
Never hear happy shooters complain LOL
-
Is the universe like a valve... balanced that day? [chuckling]
-
More like Yin and Yang LOL
I ran out of daylight today so perhaps tomorrow, I plan on being in the woods cutting some firewood, so why not :)
-
Well I aired it up, left it tethered at 3500, and raped a good 5 shots off, now it leaks faster. I have requested they send me a new gun, and can troubleshoot this one at their leisure.
-
After clearing the driveway of snow, I gave Keven a call as he asked if I would like to do the trade in person, as I live fairly close, I thought about it then decided even though it would be an interesting trip, the 3 hours of driving and some time spent there would be a bit of a time crunch for me this time of year. I said after the holidays would be the best time for me to do a UPS shipping exchange, so we wait a bit, still some bunny hunting to do this winter :)
-
I got word back from Serpent, I told them mess with the gun at their leisure and let me know, here is the response I got today. 8) :D
James,
We received and reviewed your gun. We did experience the same issues that you were seeing. A replacement is being sent out to you today. We apologize for the issues. Thank you for your patience. Let us know if you need anything else.
Thanks,
Kevin

Thanks for the update, James.
-
That’s encouraging.

8) A new gun was delivered today, tomorrow will be the testing, have plenty of shells and various BBs to stuff in them. Fingers crossed ;)

Here is a poor size comparison to my Talon SS, Serpent about 8" longer, still a nice compact size for carrying around for hours.

Count down to testing has begun. :)

Joined the thread watching/tracking as I've been trolling the interweb for PB 20 gauge "turkey" shotguns for squirrels...

And now for the rest of the story. . .
I had Nick run the camera for the middle video, it may have been the location near buildings, I was shooting from enhancing the sound,, but right after the shot went off, I said I think I flinched ;D Nick says I think I did too, and is evident in the video LOL This is like the 6th time I fired the gun with a loaded shell, so I was getting used to it, or so I thought LOL ;D 8)
-
As a kid I lit off a 16ga single shot and was not at all prepared for what was about to happen.
I have battled the resulting flinch for the rest of my life.
-
Here is a better comparison of the Serpents compact size, about 6" longer than my Air Force Talon SS :o
They also offer this with a .45 cal rifled barrel, or just buy the barrel and top hat shim, and easy swap, I am considering doing this vs. chopping the barrel on my Piledriver 8" to make it manageable in a small blind LOL

PS It is still holding air, even gained a few pounds by coming inside to warm up 8)

When I was about 13 and 98 lbs "ish"... Dad and my older step-brother let me shoot a Marlin .444.
"Topsie-Turvey" is the best way to explain it. ::)
-
I had to dig through a bunch of one minute clips to find the "scope cam" footage of the shot I took at the pumpkins. since I hold the barrel towards the ground to get the best leverage to cock this beast, all the video starts out with a bunch od dead leaves. ;D Looks like the shot went high and right, my bad LOL

I have spring turkey season on my mind, I have to wait till beginning of May to fill my tag, but one can never start too early ;D
I was still working out my optics options as the included red dot was not the best for my needs. Hmm scout mount a pistol scope, not bad but not quite right. Ok lets swap out the Monstrum 1.5 x 20 prism with circle dot. First attempt sent me looking for a rail extension, then I saw I could flip the factory rail 180 and get the results I needed 8)
Now for a day to field test the optics and different bb loads. ;D 8)
I have the $60.oo N/V mounted under to use as a Tacticam of sorts, I think I can flip the image in video editing ???
