Title: 362 family photo
Post by: BerkshireHunter on November 16, 2024, 05:24:20 PM
Took my 362 variants out for a picture, with all of them together I realize I probably went over board.  ;D
It’s funny the first one I bought in 2022 I believe, wasn’t real impressed. The sights seemed like an after thought and it wouldn’t dump all the air at 8 pumps. Put it away for almost a year but then dusted it off with renewed interest and came to appreciate everything this gun brings to the table. A tad more power than most Benji 392s, a really decent trigger, lightweight, compact - and despite all the hate on the “crappy sights” the peep is actually very serviceable and can produce excellent accuracy. It’s what most people wanted as an upgrade on the old Benjamins. Then there’s the customization, it’s so easy to tinker on this 1377/ Discovery type platform. I shimmed the spring, and tweaked the original’s valve to fix it, added a 2260 bolt. I dremmeled a point on almost all the front sights to enhance their precision. Just a 362 ramble, still hope they find the sense to release the brown stock 367 later.  ::)

I only have one, the 100th anniversary.  I agree with you. It's a fun gun.  I have replaced the .050 aperture with a .093 for plinking out to 25 yards. Easy to pump. Amusing little twang from the trigger spring.

If you look at my battery you’ll see I’ve got a thing for .22 cal Crosman pumpers.  I’ve got a 362 and a 3622 as well.  It’s a great platform.  That I waited 45 years for Crosman to build ( since the demise of the 1400).   My 362 is a great hunting tool.  Almost as good as my 1st model 1400.  The 3622 needs a steel breech before I will take it hunting and the Special edition was just too much money. But kudos to you!

I've got 2.. both have steel breeches with chopped and crowned .177 barrels. The barrels end at the front barrel bands.

I bought my first 362 when a local store had a sale $99 then they went down to $79 so I had to get two more.  So now I have a .177 and .22 with steel breeches, TKOs and barrel mounted adjustable rear sights. Plans are to slap on the .25cal Baker 725XL barrel with big bore breech and screw on TKO that I have laying around to see how it shoots with lighter weight .25 pellets. It's one I swap out on a short barrel .25 carbine Disco tube build when I want a longer-range barrel.  I would only do 8-10 pumps normally so don't know if the power is there for .25cal.  Pumpers are a favorite and I like the idea of having all three calibers.

Has to be more power than my .30 Daisy 880 experiment ;)

That was the other part I forgot to mention, you can sometimes find them under $100 and it’s a great value compared to a lot of the competition. It may not be the best looking rifle with some odd lines, but it grows on you since it’s so functional.

The styling of this gun reminds me of some of the .22 rimfire paramilitary training rifles that had a brief popularity in the early twentieth century.  Well known manufacturers like H&R and Remington made "Boys Muskets" with full length hand guards and bayonet lugs in some cases.  I think Daisy did too?

Van,
The power is there, but needs to massaged out. When we built ours, I put a valve in mine with the throat opened up. I don't remember how much,  but it's pretty big. Maybe 7/32"? The exhaust port, transfer port, and barrel port are .166". Mine wouldn't dump all the air either, so I made a hammer spring guide out of a 4mm allen bolt and put it in the hammer end of the spring to add weight to the hammer and add preload. Now it dumps 11 pumps. I cut out a section of the piston and added some threaded stock to make it adjustable.  I also added a wool felt oil wiper. Now, with a few drops of 30ND it feels almost like it's not building pressure.  At least until the trigger is pulled!
It did 651 with an H&N 20gr pellet, and 571 with JTS 29grs. Im also using the baker breech, I hate loading the H&Ns, they're a royal pain to load.

That's how short I chopped the barrels on mine.

That's all the barrel there is on those 725 barrels, minus the inch of thread at the muzzle. I like them like that, too, they remind me of the older classic airguns. I have a 114 crosman stock to put on the 362-25,  it'll be shaped like the one in the middle but dyed a walnut brown.

Peter, thanks for the info.  I think the 362 tubes would have enough power to be interesting. I tried one on my 2200 tube build and it was not that great as far as FPS are concerned.  I have both Baker 725XL Barrel types. One with the big bore breech and bolt that seals flat to the barrel breech chamber. The other is turned down to 7/16" to use a Crosman steel breech and bolt with a 2x2.5mm O ring on the bolt to seal the chamber. It loads much easier with any pellet I have tried as opposed to the Big Bore Breech where you have to point the gun down and drop the pellet in.  I did have to open up the steel breech slightly to let the larger O ring slide into the barrel.  Too bad Baker does not list these anymore. Mine are super accurate and TKO can make a metric threaded moderator for them.

Van,
When we built our 25s, my friend used a Baker high flow valve, his gets way less velocity than mine. If you're going to build one I would take the time to open up the exhaust side of the valve as I related. One thing I forgot to mention, I used a Marauder exhaust valve stem, they're harder than the white ones and will stand harder use. They're available from crosman. Do the mods, they're well worth your time! And, yes, VERY ACCURATE!
For my next 25 build I'll be using a steel crosman breech and Marauder barrel to build an hpa carbine. I have most of the parts, I'm going to get started soon. Should be fun.

How many shots per fill do each of you get?

I built this 25cal carbine using a Mountain Airgun 12" LW barrel, custom-made high-power Magnum Air valve using Marauder exhaust stem, shortened Disco tube and a modified 160 Crosman stock.  It has a Mellon power adjuster tuned to shoot 28g Barracuda Hunter Extremes about 750fps. I usually shoot 10-12 shots then takes about 35 pumps to refill to 2200-2400psi. The short tube builds pressure fast. I have not tried to see how many shots before power falls off yet. I like repumping while it only takes a few pumps as I mostly shoot off the back deck at pests or targets at the woods line back there.     My 362 in stock form shoots right about 700fps on 8 pumps with 14.3g pellets but I don't know how that would relate in fps to using a 23g pellet in .25cal. Might have to use a modified 1377 flat top valve set up.  This is my carbine build. Really light weight and quiet.(http://)

Van, the 362s and the 1377/1322 valves are the same part. Your 25 is a pretty cool build, I'm looking to build something similar this winter

I've given thought to a 25 on a 3622, and it's not off the table yet, but there's other projects in front of it.
