Title: CHEAP storage options
Post by: Iowa airguner on October 29, 2024, 05:06:39 PM
I have to many airguns. 99% are not good guns just old BB guns and stuff I have collected. I have a small gun safe but it is filled with my good airguns. The rest are in cardboard boxes and foam lined gun cases. I hate to leave guns in cases.
So I am looking at options. I don't want to spend 3-4 hundred bucks on another gun safe.
Amazon has a 71x33 inch lockable metal cabinet for 79 bucks. But I need to make a thing that will hold rifles up. Like maybe cut up one of the shelves or something to make a rack.

Any ideas on storage for low security Airgun stuff?  Under 100 bucks total.

Might be able to find a used one, as I did, I was gifted a book shelf from an old library, I used a hole saw to cut out holes for the gun barrels to rest up in, and only used the center shelf. Or guitar racks for multiple guitars.

Need to have a front. I’m looking at a 41 inch cabinet. Most BB guns I have a short.

Always get one a little bigger than you think you need.

After measuring my guns and looking at options and my space available. The best option is the 200 dollar harbor freight gun safe. Double what I want to spend.

google portable gun rack and see what comes up, some are under $50.  If you need security, run one (or2) of those bike security chain things and lock it up through the trigger guards.  Now, I haven’t done this myself, so just a suggestion to your problem.

Some of the guns I use regularly, I hang on pegboard

Those portable racks would be great inside a large locker to organize things.

As for pegboard. The guns I want to put in the safe are not display stuff. Just old junk like a 1976 daisy winchester or a 1934 buck Jones. A couple of Chinese flying dragon underlevers. Stuff like that.

I got an older wood with glass door gun cabinet off Craigslist for $60.  See what's available in your area or on Facebook.  I'm told they have a marketplace there.  You could also check gun cabinets on Walmart.  They have an assortment.

Thanks I just checked. There are a couple small ones for 50 but nothing within 150 miles.

There were some good deals on big ones but still a long drive away. And expensive for what I want.

Magnetic hooks are cheap and help make efficient use of space if you have a filing cabinet or something similar in your storage area.

They can also be used to hang pistols on the inside face of the door in lockable gun cabinets

My space is very limited. The large cabinet 72 inch tall is too large for my area. And my wall space is gone.
I ordered the Amazon cabinet and it will be here next week. Let’s see what 150 bucks gets me.

It already got me a ton of gun related adds popping up everywhere.

As soon as you get your new safe set up, you will see a nice wood one curbside for free, that's how I got 2 of mine. one I still have to haul home from work one of these years ;)

LOL... in my case I would need a entire room.   :o
Build four walls of 2 stack racks and a double stand rack in the center.
Now, if I were a single man that would most likely be a reality.

I build and race RC cars. So I have a floor to ceiling area covered. I had to buy a 10x12 foot shed just to put stuff in. Plus all the upper parts above the ceiling and under the house in the craw space is stuffed with stuff. I have been selling off a lot of stuff laity.

Funny thing is the new gun safe is going to be full as soon as I get it.

Let's just hope you don't get into bicycles...   :o

O not bicycles that could lead to a woman that rides bicycles then bad knees. That could lead to land speed racing with a motorcycle.

Keep buying more bb guns and you might be yet.

You could take that Amazon lockable cabinet and build a stand to fit inside.  I built this one from scrap wood I already had to go in my basement.  It holds the overflow from my upstairs gun cabinet and is handy to grab a gun and go out from that basement door to plink.   (http://)

I think you might have found about the cheapest possible solution for your storage problem (other than finding something free by the side of the road!), although Amazon has several others that are in the same price range.  The thing that would concern me is the electronic lock; at that price, I would almost expect problems.  It appears that pretty much all of Amazon's offerings have electronic locks.  StackOn has some keyed gun cabinets that cost a bit more than what you bought.  I have been quite happy with mine.  Be sure to let us know about your experience with your cabinet.

I got the one with the push button not the finger print . I figure that would be less of a problem. But both have a key behind the pad.

So I got it all put together and filled up.

I have to say it is totally worth 119 dollars. It is not a high security safe by any stretch of the imagination. But you can use a battery powered saw to open anything. So for old BB guns it’s perfect.

It had some dents in the frame but it pushed out and you can’t see it.

The dial alarm lock thing works and it has a key . There is a light but I can’t figure out how to turn it on. But that’s OK I am guessing the battery will need to be changed before I open it. My good guns safe has my Air Arms guns and they have lots of space. And room for maybe another 30 caliber Airacuda. Since I have the space now.

I figured out the light. It comes on for a minute when you first open the safe with the combination.

It is not as bright as one of those key ring lights from the 1980s but it does light up.
