Title: new Crosman 2240XL
Post by: desertplinker on October 25, 2024, 01:39:21 PM
With all the talk of Crosman getting bought out I decided I needed to get a 2240XL before I don't know what. Cannot imagine they would not continue to have such a popular model, but I used the possibility as an excuse to get a new one as I sold the one I had.

Never did I imagine it would be made in China, says right on it. But back roads put up a YouTube video about the China 2240 on another post, the gentleman tore down his China 2240 and saw a lot of things that he thought were improvements.

Seemed to know his way around the platform. I put a cart in mine yesterday and it held gas over Nite, that's good.

I bought a softer trigger spring and lighter hammer spring as a kit and that is all I plan on doing with this Lego platform. In the past I have gone nuts with 2240s and this one will remain mostly stock.

One thing is the tube has the letters on the outside, the tube is not etched in, this seems to me to be a better deal, maybe back roads would include that video in this discussion as I am not the best at that sort of thing. First impression is the China 2240 should be ok.

You have to dress it up a bit.
It is ready for an LDC so you might as well get one of those.

cool! but don't tempt me, really want to just stay stock with this one, the Lego 2240's have limitless possibilities.

I am thinking a longer top barrel band screw could work as a front sight.
The extension where the LDC screws on is very hard to drill.
Then get rid of the red dot.

Mount a Disco front sight to the top of the can, Bob's your uncle.
I've made a handful of them out of CO2 carts.
If I remember correctly,  they take a 6-48 tap. Screw is included from rcrosman

I just went ahead and ordered a 2240xl from Pyramid.  I should have bought one before the switch to China, but that is the way it goes.  I have a rear sight for the steel breech.  Is the pickle on the end of the barrel removable like the normal Crosman barrels?  I would like to have iron sights, but the steel breech was also a priority.

Cliff,
I do not know.
I do know it is very hard and will need a carbide bit.
Maybe some heat will loosen it.

As it is , it makes a handy little carbine with the TKO LDC:

I have no need for a carbine.  Wanted it to be strictly a pistol.  I just went ahead and ordered a barrel and sight from Mellon air also.  Still relatively cheap, and previous experience has led to believe the crown will be better.

Best bet would be to have a 2300S LW barrel for best accuracy.

I recently bought a B/N one, my 2nd one, from a member here and tested it last month; groups good, in carbine form, at 25 yards 👍

5 shots using 8.44 AA pellets.

This one shoots a bit better than my 1st one 👍
