to injuries...
the nutter i posted earlier... which was picking at my pecans... upon skinning and cleaning it, i found a very large bubble of PUS underneath the fur... it had two projectiles in about 1/2 inch of each other... a copper plated BB and a nearly pristine pointed pellet.. both .177 caliber. beings that i very rarely shoot my .177, and the fact that i havn't shot it at a nutter in months... i know it wasn't me. my .22 CFX killed it DOA you can see the exit of the pellet, which went in its head, drilled through its vitals, and exited the shoulder. poor nutter getting shot by an under powered AG... likely a pumper at long range... i hate to shoot any nutter and not put it in the freezer... even the one i shot at genes, i skinned and put into my icebox... and it made it into my freezer here. i eat them and my neighbors love my nearly flawless nutters. they always compliment me on not having them full of shot... and keeping the neighbors hpapy with nutters, keeps the cops off my case for shooting the nutters.... if ya get my drift... i need to figure out who's shooting these poor nutters, and not killing them. they are barely puncturing the skin... here is the picture... its not guts, its a really thick liquid... i'm guessing pus of some sort... very very large bubble of it under the skin. i checked it thoroughly after i snapped the picture, and the pellet never punctured the chest cavity...

To bad about that nutter. I hope you find out who's shooting and wounding them and can get them to stop.

It had to be an infection from the 2 previous shots, most likely the lead from the pointed pellet.
If I had to guess I 'd say you got a kid in the neighborhood with a weak pumper or CO2 pistol, which shoot both BB's and pellets. There are a lot of CO2 pistols on the market shooting .177 around 400-425fps. That may be fine for sparrows and Starlings up to 15yds, but nowhere near enough to take a squirrel. Even pumper rifles that shoot BB's around 650fps or pellets at high 500's or 600fps will not be effective on a squirrel past 15-20yds.
