i believe in the uk, it's anything over 12fpe. i.m.o i consider anything that shoots about 900 in 177 or 700 in 22 with lead mid weight pellets to be a "magnum". again thats just my thinking but thats the baseline i use for normal hunting situations

I consider it a marketing ploy, if it's a "Magnum" it must be bigger and we all know bigger is always better...... sarcasm.....

Magnum is a relative term having whats magnum generally well above average velocity's

Years ago when the average .177 rifles were 500/600 fps give or take, rifles such as the FWB 124 at 830fps was indeed a magnum !!
These years with 700/800 fps normal for many entry level springers, likely many would agree you need to really be getting 1000 fps or better to qualify for "Per Say" magnum status ??????????
