Title: New scope on viper hitting way too low
Post by: lurch420gam on September 04, 2010, 06:32:23 PM
So I got my beautiful new Leapers 4-16x40 and one piece Accushot high mount today. Cheers to PA, they got it here in 2 days with regular ground shipping. Well, I got her mounted on the scope rail this afternoon and even with the elevation at max, she's still shooting about 5'' low. HELP!

Shim the rear of the scope....I use two pieces of plastic soda bottles (Put them in-between the bottom of the scope tube and scope mount).....I do that on all my air rifles so I can shoot out to 70+ yards without having to turn the elevation knob too much.

Just be careful not to really over tighten the scope ring screws....you don't want to dent the scope tube.

Thanks, gamo2hammerli, shimming worked fine. Just used 3 layers of electrical tape, and that got it a lot closer to where it should be. Still need to do some fine tuning, but I'll wait till after I've installed the GRT-III, which should arrive sometime this week. Joel.

two words... barrel droop.  i make my shims out of soda cans. they are easy to cut  to size and generally one does the trick.
