Title: Crosman Vigilante "Bug-A-Salt" combo, cheap extra mags! Hunt your kitchen!
Post by: markjs on August 16, 2024, 02:15:26 AM
Just saw the coolest video on a way to get extra cheap extra mags for the Crosman Vigilante and unleash firepower on all the flies and wasps in the house on top!  I want it! (A lot of flies and a few wasps this year in the house!)  The extra cool part, when you shot all the flies, you can use the empty mags to shoot pellets!  At $13 for a dozen, the Bug-A-Salt "Shredder Ammo", it's cheaper than $6 for three proper Vigilante mags, only difference is the color. Might actually be good, to show it's obviously a pellet pistol and not a real gun too, in case of nosey Karen neighbors.  I've actually had cops called about my bb gun cuz it looked too real. This sorta solves that problem too.  Just thought it was awesome, and I just got a new Vigilante so, ya know what my next purchase will be!

That might breath new life into my Vigil.

If the Vigilante is a duplicate of the old Crosman 357, the rifled barrel tube should be trivial to remove from the barrel housing, and can be replaced with a smoothbore tube of your choice for shooting salt loads.    As I recall, 1/4" brake line fit, as did the plastic tubes from bic Biro / Round Stic pens.

I'm planning to buy some of the clips, but in the mean time...

I put some tape over the back of the BB clip that came provided with the gun, then filled with salt and a drop of water to dissolve the salt. Now it's drying before I remove the tape off the back flat side. Hopefully will have six shots to take out annoying flies. There's only about 5 or six flies anyway, but I hate them!

No malice against flies outdoors, but once they invade, no mercy!  Hopefully my plan works!

My method works fine, so when I can afford the bug a salt clips, I know how to refill them...

Looks like fun in a sort of strange way.  I can't stand when the big flies get in the house.  Especially if they decide to either buzz around you or dive bomb you.
Most of the time I use a Harbor Freight electric fly swatter.  They use high voltage to fry them.  Very satisfying on a hit.  I wait until the end of the season when they get marked down.  Last time I got one it was only $2.99, which has dispatched many a fly.

But I'd like to try this, because shooting/blasting a fly would be very satisfying.  What I don't see in the video is the aftermath.  Dunno, seems that many are simply stunned, rather than dispatched.  If those suckers are on my food, I'm going to want to get them - to prevent them from contaminating more food.

Ok for flies. ;D  Not enough standoff distance for me if going for hornets!

Yeah IDK, I have a grudge against those!  The American ones wear out the electronic sparker within two refills, as if universally designed to fail. The Chinese make the ones for China with a very light touch on the spark generator, and those last, but the ones for the American market not so good and fail in no more than 3 refills. Never once had one last.

I'd give a lot for a torch style lighter with a flint and steel that wouldn't wear out, or even the ones imported from China with the easier to actuate and more durable sparker, cuz otherwise it's disposable junk. (Now I need a second lighter with a flint and steel to light them.)

I got this laser from Amazon. It's about $20. It's very small, to lighten the weight and make things a lot more streamline. I have it mounted upside down on my Notos for those very close shots.

I have to admit, I LOVE the laser sight, even thought TBH it really feels like cheating. I just got my aluminum breech installed on my 362, and now I gotta go shoot it. The plastic breech rear sight works fine with the Baker Airguns breech, even so I might throw a red dot on until I get proper rear sights. I need to scope it, but found myself spending all my spare money on everything but a scope. It deserves a scope, so I promised myself, with he exception of a good rear sight for cheap for my 362, a decent scope is next on my list.

Somehow scopes don't excite me like new guns and other accessories for them do, but having one does, so I gotta bite down and get one, especially for my 362, the one gun I have that's fully worthy of one and needs it too.

I guess part of my lack of enthusiasm is I HATE zeroing in scopes. I'm not good at it yet, and find it a tedious and annoying task. I can do it, but I could use practice, even though I'm not fond of it.

The better you can clamp down secure the gun the easier it is to adjust a scope.  8)

I've never found setting up a new scope challenging nor tedious. I just mount it securely, shoot at a target on a large piece of cardboard, and then just adjust the wind/elev until 0.
Note: I typically don't shoot pass 60yd.

To enhancethe effectiveness of shoting insects, consider modifying the barrel to a smoothbore., allowing for salt use. Additionally using A laser sight can improve accuracy and make fly hunt ing more satisfying ;D
