I bought a cheap ($67.xx) Beeman RS2 from the great recent Bargain Gate post.
The rifle I received wouldn't cock for the first 4-5 tries. Once it latched and fired it had a weird cocking stroke with a bind halfway through.
I cobbled up this spring compressor adapter from junk laying around the garage:

When I unwound the spring a nice chunk of mangled cardboard emerged!

A thorough deburring and a basic cleanout/lube fixed it right up. It's a nice shooter now.

Nice fix, on that bargain gun, Glenn!

Nice job! I always WANT to get these bargain turds BACK to where they should be... nice shooters! The designs are solid and their potential is GOOD. The factory rush with "0" QC is the main problem.
A lot of BAD airguns could be really nice shooters if someone is willing to make the effort.
THANK YOU for that effort :-)

Thanks for the kind words guys!
It's interesting that manufacturers get 98% of the way there, and drop the ball on something like this.
One wonders how many of these otherwise decent quality guns (and other products) end up in the landfill because of stuff like this.
Oh well, their loss is my gain. This has to be the best $67 springer in my collection! ;D

I chose to do the same with a $1000.oo air rifle so there is that ;)

Fantastic! Great photos and ingenuity.

At this point I like taking them apart and voiding the warranty almost as much as shooting them! ;D

Thanks Matthew, and thanks for posting that deal in the Bargain Gate!
