Title: Can I use 3 in one silicon lubricant, in place of pelgun oil on my airguns?
Post by: markjs on July 23, 2024, 10:47:44 AM
It's just so much cheaper, and comes in a much bigger bottle. I recall being told it's basically the same as pelgun oil, minus the color, or that it at least works the same or better. It's been a long time since I have been in the hobby and have forgotten a lot.

Anyway, getting three of my favorite airguns back, two of which are CO2 guns and I wanna keep them working well as long as I can, of course.

If I understand what I've read, silicone is to protect and restore o-rings. It is not recommended for a lubricant on metal surfaces. I would continue to use Pelgun oil or the equivalent for that purpose.

20 weight nondetergent motoroil, automatic transmissino fluid, and many others have been used in place of PellGun oil and have been discussed here.  Use Search to find information.

I've been using 30W Pure Silicone Shock Fluid on all air gun O rings, rubber pump cups. or CO2 cart tips. It's great on my China PCP pump rings too as it has not needed any repair for years now.  30W nondetergent motor oil for moving metal to metal parts.  I found suppliers on the internet for 2oz bottle of the silicone oil that lasts for years as a little goes a long way.

Silicone oil, required in PCP guns, is fine for CO2 guns.  Use 20W or 30W.
