Title: What's the ideal barrel length for a 1322?
Post by: markjs on July 22, 2024, 12:24:22 AM
I seem to recall someone made a chart, but can't seem to find it again. In any case my modified 1322 has a 14.5" steel barrel and stock.  I seem to recall that 18" barrels gave the maximum velocity, and that 24" actually tapered off a bit from the 18"?

In any case, I didn't even know I still had this gun, but I apparently can get it back and am already thinking what I might do to "max out" it's performance.

I did some builds with p17 pistols 11.5 " is where the max speed happened. 24 " robbed about 5-10 fps.

I remember that thread but could not find it in a forum search. If I remember correctly, 18" was about the point where diminishing returns started, but I have a 1377 with a 24" Disco barrel on it and it gives 669 FPS / 8.2 at 10 pumps using JSB 8.26 pellets with an FT setup. Hopefully, someone can post you a link to that thread.  ;)

I used 18" ish barrels on several of my "lego" builds with great results. Best thing is that you don't have all that extra barrel hanging out there to get beat and banged around.
When determining the best length, you would need to consider pellet weight and intended number of pump strokes to be typically used.
I typically pump all my pumpers no more than 5 strokes. Rarely do I go max. If I did pump them to max the majority of the time I might consider a longer barrel.
That's just the way I see it with my limited experience. I ain't no guru.  ;)

I might add that I have a variety of guns built, modded, tuned, and purchased with specific tasks/purposes in mind. I use these "lego" carbines for no more than 25yd. duties be it pesting or target fun. If my goal is to hunt at 40 - 45 yds I would not consider a pumper, much less a "lego" carbine. My choice would be a PCP with 20 fpe and above.... accuracy and multi shot being key points for me.
Others will include spingers, which is fine, I'm just not that good with thumpers.

Same here... 5 pumps or less out to 25 yards. This new one I am doing, the 367, I am hoping to only use 2-3 pumps at the same range. My needs are very modest.  ;)

Funny... I bought 2 362 and converted both to .177. I used 18" ish barrels on both. They shoot great but there is a downside. There is only 1/4" of barrel protruding past the front barrel band. No way to put an LDC or anything on the end. That don't bother me because I am not constrained about noise where I live. It might be an issue for others who need backyard friendly quite.

Lol... I went the opposite direction. A 24" barrel with a 5" TKO. The 367 will be the same. They look like military grade sniper rifles. I was amazed at how well they balanced out.  ;)
